teblin
Hey all. I've never run a Librarian in my 40K career (because I've been playing solely BT up until last month). A Blood Angels Librarian knows two powers from the Codex. Is that in addition to, or instead of, the psychic powers in the main rulebook? For example, can my BA Librarian have two Codex powers as well as choices from the Rulebook psychic disciplines? nurglez
All the old 5th edition psykers got clarified in the relevant faqs. PSYCHIC POWERS A Blood Angels Librarian (including Mephiston) may use the psychic disciplines found in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, instead of those in Codex:Blood Angels. If he does so, generate two new powers from the Biomancy, Divination, Telepathy or Telekinesis disciplines (in any combination) before armies are deployed. Demoulius
Note that librarians as they come "stock" are level 1 so can only use 1 power per turn as they only have 1 warp token. Taking the Epistolary upgrade (at 50 points mind...) Makes them level 2 so they have 2 tokens and only Mephiston is level 3. BloodTzar
Now this confuses me, I think its a power per a player turn per mastery. In other words, you can cast (codex) one power in your turn than another one in opponents turn ... Correct me if I am wrong Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277160-librarian-confusion/#findComment-3400201 Share on other sites
Ushtarador
A psyker generates a number of warp tokens according to his mastery level every player turn. Powers cost 1 or 2 tokens to cast according to their level, and activating your force weapon consumes 1 token as well. What you can cast only depends on the number of tokens you have, there's no other limitation. kdruthless
Can you mix and match between the BA Psychic powers and the ones in the main rulebook? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277160-librarian-confusion/#findComment-3400215 Share on other sites
Brother Maikel
Nope, its either/or. Though due to the way powers are generated you don't have to decide which set to use until after warlord traits have been rolled. Disruptor_fe404
A psyker generates a number of warp tokens according to his mastery level every player turn. Powers cost 1 or 2 tokens to cast according to their level, and activating your force weapon consumes 1 token as well. What you can cast only depends on the number of tokens you have, there's no other limitation. Also depends on when you can cast those powers! This only matters for Codex powers though, as 6th has (rightly) streamlined powers into witchfires/blessings/maledictions, all of which define when you use them rather than a power-by-power basis. Gideon999
Also remember that you can only cast one "shooting" power per turn, no matter how many warp charges or powers you know. Any other type of power you can cast as many as you like (provided you do them at the right phase). Another thing that often gets forgotten when you are new to Psykers is that warp charge regenerates on the player turn. This is only important for the use of your force weapon as people often forget after they use up their powers on their turn that they can still instant death something in the enemy turn. Demoulius
Other then force weapons or blood angel codex powers its pretty irrelevant though considering noone (other then us) can cast powers in the opponents turn. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277160-librarian-confusion/#findComment-3403497 Share on other sites
teblin
Is it worth the 50pt upgrade to Epistolary? And are there any Disciplines that are generally better than others for a Marine army? Divination comes to mind. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277160-librarian-confusion/#findComment-3403583 Share on other sites
JamesI
Divination is the best. Episoltary is not usually worth it in my opinion. Other armies pay half the price for the same benefit. Demoulius
Epistolary is a tricky one. Most of us take the 100 pt liby because hes cheap and has some amazing utility. If you add the epistolary upgrade you increase his (base) cost by 50% for only a slightly comparable upgrade. If the pricing would be like as for the dark angels though it would definitely be worth it!
