Help me choosing my allies.

Hello brothers, since I usually need to have 2 projects at the same time so I don't get bored (or annoyed) with the same colours I'm trying to decide which allies to get to my pre-heresy Ultramarines so I put up a vote (VOTE ENDS THE 30TH OF JUNE). The options for allied legions are:

Blood Angels: 6

Imperial Fists: 7

Luna Wolves: 2

Emperor's Children: 1

You can find my WIP thread here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/274838-ultramarines-for-the-emperor-and-macragge/

Please, vote here so it doesn't get confusing and we don't fill up the thread.

Facmanpob: Aye, they are also honoured brothers on the allied chart ;)

Andystarscream: Who knows what can happen... Although my army is going to be mostly based on pre-heresy marines fighting orks (and other xeno scum).

Imperial fists are still in the lead, but only by 1 vote.

Are you only considering Marine allies?

If so I would vote for Imperial Fists, but as a imperial fists/BT player I am a little biased in my choice of legion :)

If you are considering other options, how about mechanicum allies?

They will be much more different to your ultra's than another marine legion (sometimes it's nice to paint someone not wearing power armour). They have some cool models from FW with more on the way and if you want to save money mechanicum will be easier to convert a counts as army for. Plus they can fit into the background of your army at any point in the heresy without having to hump through fluff hoops you would have too with the other options you have. No need to explain why there are blood angels or imp fists not with their legions at terra, or why an emperors children army is walking free as potential fifth columnists after the rest of the legion went traitor.

The imperial army/mechanicum allies are a good choice, may be tempted for some for my salamanders, though the idea of a blood angel force (one hero plus one or two assault squads) could be nice, gives you a nice fast, small force in itself.

For me, my ultramarine army is going to represent a force that is reconstructing the empire, after the heresy. Depending on how it is going to be implemented, I will have Custodes in it, somehow :) I hope it will be an elite choice for loyal forces. So I am still deciding..

However, I thought

Custodes

Imperial Army

Blood angels

Imperial Fists

In that order! :)

I was bumping around that idea before setling for pre-heresy. The fact is post heresy would mean they are codex-compliant and since I had betrayal it just felt right. But I would love to see your work.

And with "In that order" Im taking you are voting for BA?

Yes! Blood Angels. And, when playing ultramarines, who is there to stop you from collecting the "Dauntless Few". To beat anyone in any battle no matter the 'mount of chaos imperator titans you face =)

My work is yet to be done, I will start when we reach the Battle of Calth book. So I get rules and models to fit, before that I'll go with a traitor legion I think. Word Bearer and something.

Well, I would say that choosing the Blood Angels is the most logical option because theyr'e more different from the UM than the IF are, and the colours do it well together. BUT (it was sounding rare for a Black Templar to not defend they're mother legion), we don't know yet how different will be the HH's Imperial Fists from the 40k's IF so my vote goes to the Fists. They're the guys who never fall back, even when the most intelligent thing is doing it, they could be Phall Survivors as it was stated before and besides you can play with different tones of yellow because they're armour is sometimes refers as being yellow, golden yellow or golden, you could play with some colours to get your own style, more yellow, or more shining etc...

I think they painted it to be from the Minotaurs chapter, but I think it would be cool to paint the Fists in a scheme like this, is yellow but at the same time have some gold in it, so the colour wouldn't be too striking.

Cormac: Well brother, you are right that purple has been the true royal colour ever since the Roman Empire. But blue was considered a royal colour by ancient egypcians, yellow (representing gold) has always been asociated with royalty or wealth and red... well I just like red msn-wink.gif . But all are legit royal colours.

Cerbero: Ultramarines and Imperial Fists are very similar in the POST-heresy, as codex compliant chapters but the legions in the pre-heresy are all diferent. They may have a few similarities here and there but none where truly similar. I must say that the golden touch on the yellow of that contemptor is very beautiful, but It ends up being IF I would paint them a more pure yellow rather than golden. Thanks for voting.

Also I would like to add I just saw this on the Lexicanum page "Roboute Guilliman": Privately, Guilliman held four of his brothers in the greatest esteem: Dorn, Sanguinius, Leman Russ, and Ferrus Manus. He referred to the as "the dauntless few", and pronounced that he could win any war, outright, if he had those four and their Legions at his side.

So by that both the BA and IF are indeed good armies to acompany the Ultras. And brother Heathens, you might be lucky enough to see some pre-heresy Vlka Fenryka msn-wink.gif
