vindicare against tau

Today i was firing my vindicare assasin at a riptide which had 2 shield drones and we came upon a question.

If i fire shield breaker at them what happens. The tau codex makes it clear that the drones are wargear and the GK codex makes it very clear that 'any invulnerable saves granted by items of wargear immediately'

to me that includes the shield drones, they are items of wargear that are giving him a 4+ invulnerable. the drones can then act as extra wounds without the invuln (i dunno if they have armour save or not)

what do you guys think?

Well with the Vindicare the drones become irrelevant. All be it they are war gear they are still models that put the Riptide in a unit. The Vindicare special rule will mean you just simply by pass them anyway. They function in the same way as Wolves do on a Space Wolf Lord. But if you want shoot, the war gear rule wont apply to the Riptide as they don't provide him with a inv save, they just get in his way. Each drone has his own 4+inv where the Riptide himself has a 5+. Hope that makes sense.

With they way they FAQ the vindicare you get to choose where the wound is going. So you decided to put it on the crisys suit or the riptide and take away their invuln. The drones are a seperate model who have their own statline and they have the invuln, I don't think crisys suits come with an invuln.

That they do not so that is a guaranteed dead Crysis each turn. However my Vindicare prefers to hunt Hammerheads. To be honest the best method of negating Riptides is Pyscannons. The number of shots will eliminate the drones and then the rending roles will deal the armour. But then i have only killed one riptide

Nah, DK's are a better hard-counter to Riptides. With a sword and teleporter you're too fast and you'll punch it to death in one round of melee.

Vindicares are probably not a good option against Tau. They can strip away his cover save with a few markerlights, and their basic rifles can kill him pretty easily (S5 is painful). While its amusing to snipe out the Ethereal a lot of them bring now, we can kill it with less vulnerable units.
