Some Dark Angels Painting Questions

Recently I have decided to start painting again and the first Army I decided
to get painted up was my Dark Angels. I am currently painting up a few tactical
squads and really trying to prevent the whole Christmas Marines look that can
happen when you get green, red, and white going on together.

What I am trying to go for then is a very dark green almost a greenish
black. These are the paints I have used so far (sorry no pictures right now, I am
at work) first I started off with a base coat of the army painter green spray,
then put on a layer of calbian green, then washed it with biel-tan green and
then nuln oil to try and darken the green. After hitting the symbols and the
gun with mephiston red, and a yet to be determined red layer color, painting
the bolter a steel color and dry brushing the imperial Aquila, I plan on
highlighting the raised parts of the armor with warpstone glow and then glazing
it finally with waywatcher green.

My question is twofold will this give me the desired dark green and prevent
the Christmas marine look and two would you guys who have painted numerous dark
angels have a better painting scheme that would get me to that dark color?

Bryan is one of the best painters in the DA sub-forum, and spent a long time comparing and contrasting the various paint options for the Dark Angels marines......

My own preference is for a black wash over the dark green paint du jour. I think Bryan's tests showed that Nuln Oil works just as well. This is the only photo I have that demonstrates mine and it's shamefully out of focus. blush.png
