LIBER ASTARTES SUBFORUM CAMPAIGN RETURNS FROM BEYOND THE ASTRONOMICAN

It's true, boys and girls! The Liber Campaign is back, under my “leadership”.

Without further ado, the answers to all possible questions you could have about this.

FAQ

Oh, Octavulg! How thrilling!

That's not a question! But thanks, citizen.

What's the plan?

Good question! There is one (I swear), and it can be found in the Forward Planning thread!

Where can I find the plot?

Why, in the Forward Planning thread.

Why is the title on the top of this post longer than the thread title?

Because it wouldn't fit in the box, citizen. A metaphor for our character and the indomitability of the human spirit.

Who died and left you in charge?

The noble words of Ferrata which did grant my commission can be found in the Forward Planning thread. Let us have a moment of silence to remember that now-absent luminary.

What do I need to do to participate?

I'm glad you asked, citizen! You can just hang around the Liber Astartes Campaign subsubforum and throw out ideas for the people whose chapters are involved. Or you can get a chapter (or Titan Legion, or Sororitas Order) of your own involved in Act 1, which has just opened. Acts 2A, 2B and 3 will be opening in the future, if you'd like to be part of one of those instead. But between you and me, Act 1 is where all the REAL excitement happens.

Participation in an Act will require you to create a little summary of your chapter (like the major chapters have in C:SM 5e). Some guidance on doing that can be found in the Octaguide, if necessary. Do that by the deadline, and you're in. Then you have to write a battle involving your forces every two weeks until we have enough battles. And, of course, you'll hang around offering neat ideas for the politics and behind-the-scenes action of the campaign, so I don't have to make all that up myself to help foster community and create cool things involving your friends' chapters.

Oh, and whatever force you use has to have existed at the date of the events in question.

Octavulg, my heart is heavy with cynicism. How do I know people won't just drop out and miss deadlines, making this whole thing grind to a halt?

I'm glad you asked, unfortunately cynical citizen! There is a simple solution this time: if people miss deadlines, I kill off some (or all) of their participating forces. Nobly, of course. Their places may be taken by others, or we may soldier on sadly reduced. Either way, it's noble, it'll increase the bloodshed, and it prevents things getting slowed down.

I may have to rewrite the plot of the entire campaign to “and then they all died”, but that's another issue.

Octavulg, I don't have a chapter of the right age/don't want to write battles/don't know if I can commit the time/have bad acne. What should I do?

I'm glad you asked, citizen. The answers, in order: hang around the subsubforum and help, hang around the subsubforum and help, hang around the subsubforum and help, and hang around the subsubforum and help (and give it time or see a medical professional).

How can you help? Write sidebars. Offer ideas. Help finish the Black Swans. Draw pretty pictures. Make maps. Make chapter symbols. Offer people feedback on their battles and chapter writeups. Be all Libery, in short.

Octavulg, why can't I use my Guard regiment?

There is no pleasing you, citizen. Honestly, you can. I just would urge you to consider a few things. First, Guard regiments aren't exactly fast reaction forces – the pace of some of the campaigns may not lend itself to them. Second, the equivalent to several Space Marine companies is probably regiments (plural). Third, it means if you miss deadlines I'm going to virtually annihilate the regiment. I'm sure they'll remuster, but that's a lot of dead Guardsmen to have on my conscience. So if you want to, go for it, but just remember the above.

Octavulg, you haven't addressed this question I have. What should I do?

Impossible, citizen. As mentioned above, this post answers all questions anyone could possibly have. But if you message me with it, or ask it in this thread, I'm sure I can explain how I've already answered it.

Octavulg, why are you so great?

Because I'm me, citizen. And thanks for a great question.

Oh yes. The whole point is to use chapters that already exist. I mean, you could make a new one. But most people use ones that already exist.

EDIT: For example, my Bronze Prophets, Ice Lords and Steel Dogs were all involved in the last one in some capacity or another.

Remember that you only have two weeks to choose. You may have to stop at the Bs. msn-wink.gif

Remember, an inability to meet deadlines is rewarded by having me write an exciting defeat for your chapter. So there's really no way to lose.

Also, the commitment is basically 500 words every two weeks. I'm sure you could manage. Hell, it's only 40 words per day.

I think it's in Forward Planning, but in any case:

Chapter 1 and 2B become Act 1 (moving up the death of the Black Swans and loss of Petrok's banner).

Chapter 2A remains more-or-less as-is (since it doesn't really lend itself to combination), becoming Act 2A.

Chapter 2C and 3 become Act 2B (recovery of Petrok's banner and bones).

Chapters 4, 5 and 6 become Act 3 (which well end up divided into a variety of Tracks, because it's going to be big).

The hope is that this simplifies events a little.

If you were in an old Chapter and want into the new Act, you have to post a Chapter Summary (like the Crimson Fists or Salamanders in C:SM 5e) and the size of the forces you're committing. On the bright side, you're guaranteed a slot if you do that within the deadline (July 8th).

I'm honestly going to play it by ear a bit. The current plan is to open recruitment for Acts 2A and 2B as the last battles of 1 drift in, and then we'll start writing battles for it as the endgame of 1 finishes up. This plan is so subject to change it hates Nurgle.

Simultaneously ripping off Futurama and Blackadder is the stuff that magnificence is made of. Fact. tongue.png

I'd like to involve the Alpha Hounds towards the end, possibly the Sons Pious earlier on. Only thing I'm unclear on at the moment is the headings under which the forces are appearing in the Act 1 Thread (At the ready, knife in the dark, etc.). What are those for?
