Monstra Sumus
Below is the now completed and ready to play units of my Marines Malevolent army. The only thing missing is decals from some of the Marines, those will be added over time but as it is, I'm happy with them and calling them complete. I give fair warning, there are some mold lines and laziness is to blame for that and the painting isn't magnificent. Yet, all models are based, all barrels are drilled and I even made a make shift light box. I'm learning. So without further adieu, I present the 1'st Cohort of the 3rd Crusade. Centurion Remus Tyrax. His personal guard, a Domination Squad. Brother Judas, Champion of Hate. Squad Claudius, 'Rage of Claudius'. Squad Saul, 'Hammer'. Squad Bato, 'Titans of Arx'. Squad Callisto, 'Teeth of Vengeance'. Squad Heracles, 'Teeth of Vengeance'. Honoured Brothers Arx and Hephaestus. Vindicator, 'Lance of Perdition'. ---- As it stands, that's just over 1500 points. To reach my desired goal of 2500 points I will be adding a complimentary allied force of Blood Angels focusing on more anti vehicle and heavy infantry. Thank you for looking, BT. Monstra Sumus
Spent the day applying the missing decals and I now officially declare this crusade force complete. A complete Army shot. I'm aware some of the tactical decals are chipped but I figure rather than re-do them, it fits with their already foot-slogger appearance. My boys ain't no shiny parade ground two-steppers! :p These guys are all done for now, at least until I decide to push for the 3000 points mark. As it is I've got a Knights of Blood allied force to buy, assemble and paint which includes Captain, Tactical Squad, Storm Raven, Devastator Squad and a Drop Pod. Hope you have enjoyed the little journey I've gone on with my Marines Malevolent. Cheers, BT.

Firepower
Pretty neat :) The decals could've used some microsol...or is it microset? I dunno, someone else would be better qualified to explain. I dunno if it can be applied retroactively either. I'm just pointing out that they're very shiny. The vehicles have too much black and not enough yellow to really come across as MM vehicles at a glance. They're also uncharacteristically clean. I do like the handwriting and the shields though, very neat and tidy work there.
Monstra Sumus
Thanks, deathspectresgt7 and Firepower. The decals I'm not very fussed about. I can see why they'd be a bug bear for some, but I haven't fooled myself into thinking these guys are anything than what they are; and that's average. I'm honestly just happy I got them all painted and based. I will always be finding things on them to go back over or things I should have done whilst making them but this is my first proper army in a long time, my last one fell through after one Tac squad at the release of 5th ed. For the vehicles, if I made the Vindicator any dirtier, it'd just be covered in mud! I guess the front on shot of the dozer blade didn't convey the effect I wanted, the above shots were before a final coat of badab black and gryphonne sepia. I do agree on the Rhino, though. I haven't weathered it in any sense, I guess at it was the last model I did. I'll address that, I'm just stuck on making the vehicles seem any more Malevolent without making them seem too Imperial Fist? could maybe do the hatches on the Rhino sides yellow like the rest, it'll also give me space to slap on a Tank sized decal. Yes, I might just do that.
BrotherCaptainArkhan
The decals will probably lose their shininess with a good coat of matt varnish. If you ever do look to use them, Microsol is the one you apply after you've placed the transfer, to soften the decal and make it mould it the curve of the shoulderpad. Nice and gritty looking Marines Malevolent, I would love to go toe to toe with them. The Domination squad is looking fearsome. There is a noticeable jump in quality between Squad Saul, and Squads Bato and Claudius. For whatever reason, Saul's marines have slightly crisper paintjobs, and the yellow of their armour is better shaded (presumably you used devlan mud/army painter strong tone, it worked well). Both Bato and Claudius' squads have some very minor but noticeable slips on the shoulderpads and eyes, where black has spilled over onto yellow, that sort of thing. I'm guilty of this too, and I know how frustrating it can be to fix, but Saul's squad looks so good it would be a pity not to go back when you're fresh and spend a few minutes on each marine from Bato/Claudius and tidy up here and there where the brush jumped a little. Also, the yellow on Bato/Claudius squads is a little flatter - I'm not sure if you washed those squads or not, but it might be worth going over again. I only mention the above because it's very easy to fix, and it's obviously well within your abilities as everything else looks very solid. Hope that's helpful - looking forward to seeing your next instalment! :)
Monstra Sumus
Thanks BrotherCaptainArkhan. I must admit that the quality jumps, probably due to smashing this entire force out basically back to back and in various places. Modelling has become a stress regulator in the last few months so where ever I am, I try to get something done, so the lighting and conditions can be terrible sometime. I think I'll give myself a week or two break while I wait on my Knights of Blood to come through before I go back and touch up the eye pieces, but you're right, some of them need another coat of washing. Sharper eyes than mine let me know what to improve on! The Domination squad is my pride and joy at the moment. 2 Assault Cannon, 4 A each on the charge and they all benefit from Tank Hunter, being attached to my Marshal who's on 5A on the charge and using his chain fist, I can say I was very happy with how quickly they chew through most things. Those rending shots coupled with the storm bolters right before a charge are just too brutal.

I really should go to the opticians. I'm looking forward to getting gritty with the KoB. I'm going completely forgeworld with them bar the Storm Raven and Drop Pod. A nice mixture of Mk2 for the Devastators and Mks 3 & 5 for the Tactical Squad and Captain. Should be a nice contrast on the board next to my Malevolents. ---- Taking into account what BrotherCaptainArkhan said, I had some time to kill so I touched up and layered another wash over the squads mentioned and have brought them in line with Squad Saul. The whole army has the same darker tone now. You can really see what he meant with this first photo. The 4 on the left were what was commented on, the 4 on the right are the re-wash. The little bath seems to have cured the decal shine some what, so that's a plus. Cheers, BT EDIT: noticed the unpainted Resin the spraying didn't quite cover in some of the crevices. These have been purged.

Monstra Sumus
Firepower was right in saying the Rhino was too pristine. So, being as I washed the three squads to bring them into ultimate filth range of the rest of them, the Rhino stood out far too much. Thus, it got the filth treatment. Atratus is now steaky, covered in oil and suffering old scorch marks. I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste but it fits with the army. I did encounter a absolute balls up on the top hatches which is pretty evident, but try as I might I couldn't save it, so I salvaged it as best as I could. I'm saying it's an old grenade detonation mark, it works, I suppose. Everything has a coating of grit and filth and I'm happy.
BrotherCaptainArkhan
They look much better already. I know exactly what you mean in terms of modelling being a good stress reliever, it's a great way to leave this mortal coil for a bit. I didn't mention that I really like Atratus. Especially the heraldry on the shields! Looking really solid. hopefully come the next edition of C:SM it'll be done justice by the rumoured new rules for Rhinos. Keep it up - enjoying this thread! :)
Monstra Sumus
Thanks BrotherCaptainArkhan. The heraldry was an idea of a friend which quickly took hold throughout the army. I figured as they are constantly on the move and are throwing themselves into the meat grinder, those heroes who survive the first few grinds are entitled to declare their own heraldry, banding other warriors under their shields. As it stands, the Malevolent's are done for now, I'm going to add to this thread with my Knights of Blood as the heavy weapons support for the rather mobile list these guys are. That'll give me a solid 2500pts. When I ramp it up to 3k, I'll be definitely getting a LRC for the Domination squad and two more Vindicators. If I fancy joining the Apoc games round here, then I'll be packing Whirlwinds ;) Cheers, BT.
Monstra Sumus
Managed to get some spraying done and to kill the night I decided to start on my allied force. So, I present to you, Lance Knight Tyberius of the Knights of Blood, 8th Lance. The heraldry is a little rough but it is my first pop at free-handing the KoB symbol. I've gone for the darker metallic scheme as apposed to the brighter, Grey Knights silver. There isn't any black, it's triple shades of gunmetal, lead belcher and mithril washed with badab black. Hope you enjoy! Cheers, BT.
Monstra Sumus
Small update to add to the finished product. The interior doesn't bother me much so it's just brushed, washed and being left as it is. Thanks, BT
Brother Eleysium
The lighting is very poor, so it makes it kind of difficult to see, but from what I can see, great work brother. It's always nice to put a fully painted army down on a tabletop.

Monstra Sumus
That meant to be the other way around, brother? :p As far as the plans I have for when the new 'Dex hits, the above is paltry. I'll be crying among broken brushes and empty pots of yellow before the years out! Mark my words! I'm picking up a squad of Tartaros Terminators and a Mortis Contemptor on Monday to tie up my fingers until after September, then it's another 3 Tactical Squads, 2 Storm Talons, Sternguard, Devastators, Librarian and a Storm Raven. Once that is all finished I'll be sorting an entire second Primary Detachment consisting of another Captain, Librarian, 6 more Tacticals, Bikes, Typhoons, Devastators, another Vindicator and an extra Storm Raven. I'm going to punish the ever loving hell out of my local opponents and their 5+ saves. Oh, all of it's going in Drop Pods too.

Monstra Sumus
Finished my Mortis Contemptor, Ancient Lysandros and the Mantle of Hate. There's a nod to the Macharian Heresy war with the Star Phantoms in there. My first multipart resin kit that isn't a Marine, I'm happy with how he's come out. Monstra Sumus
Small update. The cacophony of war filled the air. Screams, gunfire and the implacable sounds of combat blurring into a heady buzz that threatened to deafen those who heard it. Two giants strode the field of battle, thick mud splashing up their worn yellow greaves, looping in caustic ribbons to fizzle back into the churned, bone strewn mush. The first jinked his bolter to the left, a quick squeeze of the trigger sent a bolt shell screaming through the air to smack into the xenos creature, the pulse rifle shattered and the Tau went down in a hail of blood. ++ Filth.++ Brother Povic muttered into his vox link, static hissing in response to his voice. The striding giant next to him, fully taller by another head again on the Astartes, turned. The cold and soul-less visor plates regarded the smaller Marine. A growl rumbled across the closed link vox net. ++ Keep vox traffic to a minimum Legionnaire Povic, Centurion Tyrax dislikes idle prater.++ The Space Marine regarded the hulking form of the Domination squad Prefect, crushing and pulping swollen corpses under his massive stride, his tactical dreadnought armour splattered with offal and gore. Povic grunted inside his helm, the sound sending re-verb along the communication feed. The giant weight of the Tartaros clad T'arko stopped, tiny waves sloshing in the toxic effluent against his massive greaves, the paint peeling against the chemical waste. ++ Interface, isolate ident 3-40 Povic; closed communique. Speak freely Legionnaire. ++ Povic stopped and ghosted his corvus helm back and forth, letting his sensory augurs ping the misting battlefield around them. ++ Centurion Tyrax seems improper. His method is far stricter than his predecessor. At the very least, Tarik could appreciate a release of venom and embitterment, Prefect. ++ The Terminator swung on his central axis, servos hissing as he swept his humming blade out in a wide arc. The weapon sheared through the midsection of a Torhost Guardsman, the air snapping as the power field discharged, exploding the mans legs from his torso. Screams suddenly filled the air between the two Marines. The man scrabbled and clawed at the rear plates of the Terminator armour, blood streaking the faded ocher as dangerous substances mixed with the mans lifeblood. ++ Hmmp, our allies should be careful upon who they advance silently. His duty is noted. As for the Centurion, Povic, I have one simple answer that you will, in time, come to appreciate on why Remus Tyrax is a much more efficient commanding officer than Seren Tarik ever was. ++ Povic flicked his glance down to the pleading Guardsman, watching the blood pump oily slick from his ragged mid section, his spinal column charred and twitching. Fool. The Marine turned his eyes back to the massive form of T'arko before him and his silence indicated his expectation of an answer. The Terminator sergeant spoke simply and cut off the internal vox link. ++ You were not at Kolstrom.++ Then he strode off, the mans scrabbling fingers leaving bloody streaks in their wake. Povic frowned, chewing on the side of his lip gently in agitation, it seemed all of the Prefect-Veterans who were present at the Burning of Kolstrom were just as cryptic about why Tyrax, despite being so young and inexperience, was firmly rooted in command. Povic shrugged it from his mind and leveled his bolter, sending a round down and shattering the dying mans head to a pulp and trudged off after T'arko. He never could stand the wailing of dying mortals. These models are a joy to paint (albeit badly). Cheers, BT
