Valerian
In addition to what Thade provided, a significant issue with Interceptors (and also Assault Squads) is that they aren't actually all that good a assaulting - they've got the requisite Tactical Mobility, but not the close combat power to pull it off. If they had two attacks each, then it'd be a much different story. Additionally, none of the Independent Characters that could help offset this problem (Brotherhood Champion, cough, cough) can get a Personal Teleporter to attach to Interceptors and buff them. So, instead, you're paying a bit of a premium to pay for Mobility to get perhaps the ability to find better lanes of fire than you'd get with a Strike Squad; that advantage, frankly, isn't enough to make up for the added expense and the loss of Scoring. Reclusiarch Darius
Interceptors are our spoiler unit. They function like Seraphim or Warp Spiders; fast and reasonably hard-hitting, but not especially durable or good in melee. They are not front-line melee powerhouses like Terminators etc, which is why people dislike them. For spoiler units, its best to bring them in via Outflank or Deepstrike, and attack dedicated ranged units that suck even worse in melee/close range. Interceptors and Seraphim are especially good at this, as they bring template weapons for smoking the enemy out of cover. Even PA units like Long Fangs or Havoks hate templates to the face, as they're usually brought min-maxed at 5-man (for cost reasons). Brother Captain Sirus
I use interceptors for the high risk/high reward style of play but thats due to the amount of necrons in my gaming circle, and as quantum shielding only effects front and side armour its a great way to drop into the rear arc and take out with psycannon.
