New fortifications.. end to our flyer woes?

So there are some big fortifications being released alongside apocalypse, and apparently they have rules (for both 40k and apoc) in the box with the kit (meaning you don't need to buy an additional codex/supplement or what have you in order to be able to use them). From the rumours I'm reading on natfka, one has two quad-linked icarus lascannons, and another has a macro cannon that can fire at flyers. And then the other one has Vortex missiles :O

Obviously if the points cost is too high then they'll be pretty worthless, but assuming they're costed reasonably, I can totally imagine bunkering up two units of longfangs behind such a fortification.

I mean, Aegis defense lines are pretty decent, but with only one per army (<2000pts) it's hard to get by on that alone. If these new uber fortifications allow you to invest more points in that one FOC slot (with commensurate anti-air returns for the cost) then I'm thinking... flyers aren't going to be much of a problem for us anymore.

Have to wait & see. My friends have wised up to my Bastion trick so I'll probably be looking at any thing new along the lines of Fortifications. I'm gonna paint my Whirlwind Hyperios as part of a second vow hopefully for the ETL & that will be another answer to Flyers for my army. New fortifications might be cool but it will depend on what they come up with. No doubt it will be interesting.

they're for the Wall of Martyrs doodah - basically a slightly better Aegis Line, designed as a more permanent defence line hence why you can have things like multiple quad turrets, macro cannons etc.

Does look rather nice mind - especially the idea of a macro cannon or two sets of quad guns...

I think better fortifications is quite a nice option for wolves, because long fangs are cost effective and have split fire. This helps keep them from becoming redundant - flakk missiles or no flakk missiles. It's relatively straightforward to chuck the squad leader on the gun and have him take AA duty and then have your ML models shoot at something else. Normally the squad leader should die first, but in this context, probably not...

So I'm thinking one of these new fortifications could happily house two such squads.

From the look at the turn around of the new firestorm redoubt, I'm wondering if the unit firing the quad lascannons has to be inside the bunker or touching the guns themselves, also if they have to be in the central part or the sides.I say this because there is no controls/displays on the back of the actual guns.

So perhaps back line objective holding grey hunters can man the guns inside while a pack of long fangs can sit up top for the cover saves?

Pretty sure if your squad leader is manning the quad/las gun you can't split fire. Use a WGPL instead.
