DuskRaider
Yeah, I can't find anything saying their Great Companies were broken into Companies (just looked at my copy of Betrayal, you're right), I suppose they could be but then again the Legion relies on strength in massed numbers. Conn Eremon
Nah, wasn't taken as negative to me. I was going to respond that I never take being thrown actual facts and quotes insultingly but they kind of just go along with what I sa-- Ohhhhh. blackoption
I was just extrapolating from the basic legion structure. While there is no mention that they have battalions or sub companies... there is nothing stating that they do not exist either. In absence of anything to contrary, I tend to default to the basic structure laid out earlier in the book. Conn Eremon
Been looking through Betrayal for tidbits on the Palatine Aquila and I found this beauty on page 134, under the Contempter: Â "Rising to the honoured rank of Standard Bearer of the 19th Chapter of the 1st Great Company . . ." Â So I'll own up to being wrong on this one. It seems like the Great Companies were divided into smaller organizations. The 1st Great Company was made up of at least 19 Chapters, which means that Typhon's command was over at least 19 Chapter Masters, or whatever their equivalent title. So the Great Companies were additional command structures added over the already present system of Chapters and Battalions and Companies rather than outright replacing it. Except there is nothing to say the numbering of chapters didn't go across the Great Companies, i.e. that Typhon commanded the 1st, 9th, 19th and 34th (or whatever) chapters, rather than numbers 1 through 19 all being in the 1st GC. Adra'Melek
As I understand it when the Legions find their Primarchs they're made up of various Chapters, with sub-formations. Since Mortarion wanted 7 Great Companies it would make sense to retain the original Chapter numbers rather than re-number most of them. Unless the numbers are so small that one great company was founded first and the rest made from new chapters (don't think this would be the case as some would never get formed due to attrition rates). Conn Eremon
I would say Durfast Spiritwolf has a point, but I could only seeing that be the case if each Chapter was different enough to be chosen for one or another. But Mortarion instituted uniformity, which flies in the face of that. No, I'm sure it was 1 through 19, and potentially more.
