Grey Mage
Its now a formation! After 7 years of borrowing C:SMs 'Battle Company' and subbing in packs all over the place, we now have a Great Company formation that includes Vendreads, Priests, Wolf Lords, Guard.... even Thunderwolves if you wantem! Bulweih
Indeed a fine day for us brother! I'm quite eager to know if our formations recieved nice new special rules as well....it sure sounds good for a start. MaveriK
A great day indeed! But somehow I imagined it to be allot more mech and or drop pods, especially if Ragnar was mentioned in that particular great company. But I had to laugh a little when I saw the Space Wolves Librarius formation. I can almost see Magnus pointing his finger towards the direction of Fenris, from omewhere inside the eye of terror simply yelling out "hypocrites!!" as he sheds a little tear. Then suddenly Njal wakes up in a cold sweat, quickly goes outside, looks up in the night sky towards the direction if the eye of terror and replies, "sell outs." Anyway, does anybody know if Sternhammers wulfen guard still legal to play? Grey Mage
Well from the page numbers, it looks like we use the regular SM Libarius formation, just with Rune Priests. And if we cant mechanize/DP the GC Ill eat a pair of my own socks, stewed. As for Sternhammers- probably not, unless they rerelease it. Khine
Mmmmm Super Living chain lightning... s9 2d6 hits 'on a roll of 5+, lightning jumps to a nearby target within 9 inches ' ... would be nice for that Rune priest formation. xD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277448-space-wolf-gc-in-apocalypse/#findComment-3403466 Share on other sites

stinkenheim
Is that Finecast Grey Hunter with Wolf Standard new? I like him! V I thought exactly the same. Although it looks like the detail on the banner is pre moulded. At least we are getting some love from this expansion. MaveriK
Huh? that Grey Hunter wolf standard guy has been around the same time when thunder wolves and Rockfist models came out.... --EDIT-- IMO it's an ugly model! the face... The pose... It's just lazy. It's a reason I never bought it when it came out a year or two ago?! Valerian
Huh? that Grey Hunter wolf standard guy has been around the same time when thunder wolves and Rockfist models came out.... ! I hadn't been on the GW site in a very, very, long time, other than to download FAQs, so never noticed him. Also, I don't remember any threads here at the Fang mentioning him. I actually like him, but I prefer plastics to resin and metal models, and I already have 4 Wolf Standard Grey Hunters, so I don't suppose I'll bother with him anyway, but he was a nice surprise IMHO. V It's all good, you're not alone. I too would overlook or miss things from time to time. But I agree with you on the plastic and metal. I'm not a fan of the finecast. But I've been very impressed with the quality and detail GW has been producing in their plastics lately. Forté
It was discussed on here at the time it was shown in White Dwarf originally. Got completely overshadowed by the TWolves. A lot of people thought it was ok but nothing more. I think it's a huge pile of rubbish. Which is the politest I can be about it. The fact that it's arsecast just makes it worse. Back on topic though. I'm not sold on it. Vanillas get different company formations for the support companies. Our most basic descriptions of the Great Companies show that each has its own style. Something neglected to me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277448-space-wolf-gc-in-apocalypse/#findComment-3403591 Share on other sites
TheCrazyCaptain
Did I misread... They gave us a lbrarius formation, and make reference to us having librarians... As opposed to rune priests. Still no flyers, still no AA, and now they're adding insult to injury by calling our mighty rune priests ... "Librarians". How dare they! How very dare they!! MaveriK
Like Grey Mage says, after all these years it is really nice for GW to give us an idea of what a Great Company formation would be like for Apoc. However I do feel as if it wasn't really thought out at the same time. It's as if it was more of a cut+paste job, from some intern who knows nothing about our not so reformed codex astartes space wolves chapter. I mean honestly what is that Iron Priest going to do there, but pick up the droppings from those Fen/Thunder wolves. How are those dreadnoughts going to get into combat without drop pods? the same with those troops and lack of rhino's and or pods. No razorback support? or other heavy support tanks?! LMAO it's almost a backhanded complement from GW. I only hope that this formation does not influence the future heresy book based on Prospero and our once legion from Forgeworld. Russ Brother 92
tbh out of the 3 or 4 that we've been 'handed' the only one which appeals to me is the Wulven Strike Force thingy - 15+ TW Cav, 15+ Wolves and Canis all outflanking :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277448-space-wolf-gc-in-apocalypse/#findComment-3403625 Share on other sites
Bulweih
Well, as with all things concerning GW, I'll wait till I have the book to decide if they made things better for us in Apoc or not. There's this huge chance they wrecked the whole thing just for sales, there are signs . But as an Apoc Player, I dearly hope for a good book with at least some love for my beloved Legion. I do hope there's a certain flexibility to the real list in comparison to the one-klick packs, also including transports for the GC package would easily go beyond funny price-wise, so again hoping they're in the list-despite not beeing in the package. Nothing to do but wait really . As for the Banner guy, I'd love to include him since he has Ragnar's Banner moulded on it and looks good on the pics. But sadly he's mailorder only here and truth be told Arjac's quality scared me a little-and his mini was the result of a prolonged search through the store's stash of some 30ish Arjac packs. After asking around a lot, I found people weren't happy with theirs and very upset by the mailorder service, so I let it go. SW1
Have you looked at the picture in detail? http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m3300559a_99020101025_SpaceWolfGreatCompany01_873x627.jpg A big issue being the Long Fang Packs ... They seem to have a few extra bodies ... To me they seem like they have the same load out/marines as a vanilla dev squad (10 men with 4 heavy weapons)!!! Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
@SW1: i see this as another mark of GW's ignorance of their own product rather than any interesting change. on topic, I was happy to see this, sad when i examined it. its a little tiny for a Great Company. mine is easily 50-60 models larger than this. Seems I have all those models covered, except for the bikes (I have Skyclaw packs) and the 10-man Long Fang Packs?? That is odd, seeing as the five on top couldnt be long fangs, with just bolters an all. At first I thought they were PAWG, but theyre markings are black and white, not black and yellow. Forté
You get two Devastator boxes giving you 4xHB, 4xLC, 4xPC, 2xML and 2xMM. TheCrazyCaptain
I spoke to GW this morning - apparently there's over 250 formations in the rule book - and the wolves gain a good few more than have been listed. Also, it's techies that put the site together rather than gamers necessarily, and I'm assured that the librarian bit of the formations is a mistake on their part, they're not suggesting we have Librarians - we love our Rune Priests, and so do they.
