Friz 80
Quick question. We are clearly overmatched when it comes to flyers,so my question is. What would I need to do to field to IG flyers? Could I field 3 squads of 10 General troop types give them chimera transports and have 1 HQ choice and then field the 2 flyers? Would that be legal? If not what else do I need? Rune Priest Jbickb
Legally you need 1 ig HQ, 1 ig troops choice and then you can take one of any foc slot from ig Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277456-allies/#findComment-3403484 Share on other sites
Argun
and just remember: IG flyers can come in squadrons of 3. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277456-allies/#findComment-3403541 Share on other sites
dswanick
and just remember: IG flyers can come in squadrons of 3.Not all of them. One of the best Flyers to take for air superiority work is the Vulture, and that's one for FA slot. Russ Brother 92
It all depends on the flyers you're facing - if you're up against Codex Marines then you'll want hitting power so I'd go for a Vendetta Squadron (3 flyers each with 3 twin-linked lascannons and options for a further 2 heavy bolters means you could put out 9 S9 re-rolling Hits and 18 S5 Hits per turn if withing 36") - if you're up against lighter flyers such as Ork Fighta-Bommas or Eldar Flyers then the Vulture is a beast it's a little cheaper starting price is outweighed by the cost of buying any extra weapons (it only starts with a heavy bolter, multi-laser and hellstrike missiles) however it has lots of options. hendrik
alternatively you could ally with an armoured battlaion, allowing you to take a leman russ as a HQ and troop choice. vendettas, valyries and vultures are a heavy weapon option for that army list Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277456-allies/#findComment-3404078 Share on other sites

One of the best Flyers to take for air superiority work is the Vulture, and that's one for FA slot. Thats also an out of codex unit.... If youre taking IG just for the Vendetta, then by all means do so- take a veteran squad and a command squad, and put them each in a vendetta as part o the same squadron... 6 TLLC should rip anything apart. For more AA you could take Hydras in the HS slot. Also: obligatory 'allies are the devil!!!!1111one!' just to get it out of the way ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277456-allies/#findComment-3404081 Share on other sites
TheCrazyCaptain
Depending who you're playing, you could just take Imperial Navy (forge world) Flyers. The Imperial Navy is available to any of the Imperial Forces - Such as guard, Marines, Inquisition - as an Ally. I have a Vulture in my "42nd Air Supremacy Permanent Detatchment" with the wolves. I plan on taking a second Vulture, Two Thunderbolts and a Marauder - admittedly, I'll rarely field all of them at the same time, but they'll look good on my shelf when not in use. Or you could take a Comissaar (meh) , 2 veteran squads (I suppose they're capable of holding an objective) , and then fill the remainder of your slots up with Imperial Guard fliers. WolfLordSam
I have to wonder about the poosibility (fluff wise) of an IG regiment from Fenrisians? We already know that the Wolves use portions of the local population for tasks of varying degrees of technical difficulty, and that the Guard like to recruit from death worlds...... Its already been discussed to death, the use of IG as a Fenrisian PDF. While this is slightly different, its still using C:IG for Fenrisian units. However, there'd be all-out war before the Wolves permitted the Imperium to recruit from their pool. SW1
I've got a bunch of metal Marauders I'm hoping to be able to make into Fenrisian PDF. Just need to sort out the weapons to strap onto their backs. hendrik
why would you want a fenrisian pdf force? these usually only go to war when in dire need such as when the fang was assaulted. i prefer to have the guardmen as part of a combined crusade force/a loyal guard regiment that needs to get saved. there's more fluff suporting it, not to mention it is "easier" to model, and makes more sense to use as possible opponents if you want to introduce someone to the game. just a suggestion though ;) as for a complete imperial navy army list, i don't think i've head that one before crazycaptain. could you point out where you can find such armylist? Grey Mage
Its not an armylist, just individual units. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277456-allies/#findComment-3406201 Share on other sites

Lol ... Just think it'll look cool. ;) Though I'd play them as thralls/support staff if ever used ... Maybe have some form of barrels of mead/mojod which the SW's can count as an objective?
