Spacefrisian
Was just wondering, if you want to go the pure Sisters way without use of allies, wouldnt that make fortifications mandatory include? I just been skiming over the fortifications and that bastion does provide your force with a cheap and easy way to deal with flyers. Here is why. -The building is high, it will most likely have full sight on entire board. -Cannons have skyfire and allows you to shoot flyers. -Cannons have intercept so you will be given a free shot when a flyer arrives, with correct weapon you shouldnt need to worry bout range. -Armour 14, the army lacks that kind of armour. -Relativly cheap -Downsides being that its a bit big, but not super big. -immobile, but with the range that shouldnt prove a problem Might i be on to something? iam trying to come up with new strategies that do work cause the current ones arent working (for me at least.) Sister Rosette Soulknyt
good point, i'm already converting the Fortress of Redemption tower to my SoB, now some new terrain is coming out, i plan to buy some more for the future, i like the weapons you get that SoB lack. mmmm Macro Cannon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277518-fortifications-standard-for-pure-sob-list/#findComment-3404604 Share on other sites
Fibonacci
I have used a bastion before and works well with Retributors at the guns. The down side is that one lasconnon hit can bring down the building including all gun emplacements. Cover saves are almost impossible to get with a bastion, too. Yes, it is AV14 but also subject to glance death which some armies love to do with gauss weapons or haywire grenades for example. The ADL cannot be destroyed but it has its own limitations. Being ground level can cause LoS issues as everyone knows but the worst vulnerability is that the enemy can walk right up to it and fire YOUR gun at your units. It is cheaper but does not come with the extra heavy bolters. And while the defense line cannot be destroyed, the gun emplacement is still vulnerable; but at least it is easy to get a cover save for the gun. Either one of these are good additions to the army and not only for their anti-air abilities. They also bring a much needed long range fire option to the list. Spacefrisian
Iam looking at the idea of ditching Retributors entirly in favor for 3 cheaper Excorsists, as said they are cheaper and they posses range, their random shots are a small problem, but than again, it might only need 1 shot to get 1st blood anyways if you are first to go. Fibonacci
3 Exo is the old tried and true standard. Nothing wrong with sticking to the fundamentals. FWIW, 8 Retributors with 4 HB, simulacrum and stormbolter superior is 1 point less than an Exorcist with a stormbolter. I like to build them as close as possible to points so I can swap them around as needed. SinnerBeta
I always wanted to convert a Fortress of Redemption into some sort of cathedral or church you see in the older SoB/WH codexes, but yeah the problem is that a stray Lascannon can destroy it, possibly killing the team in it. Plus my army is too reliant on every Sister beside Retributors rushing the enemy to overwhelm them with mass bolter/melta/flamer as soon as possible. But I guess in a higher point game where you already filled all your allies slots you could spend some on it considering it gives you free guns and doesn't use your limited d6 Faith Points. Vigrid Of Asgaror
I will probably be running some form of fortifications in the future, they seem fun and versatile. I will definitely want to convert it into a SoB building though. derpasaurus
I'm going for an Aegis Defense Line because it's cheap (points and monies) and because I can paint it up to be gloriously neutral for my traitor marines and Sisters to both use. 2 armies 1 kit. :O Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277518-fortifications-standard-for-pure-sob-list/#findComment-3405974 Share on other sites
Naminé
I have a bastion which is a great building if you use it right. Retributors are an obvious choice but sometimes keeping your troops safe is worthwhile. 75 points is great value Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277518-fortifications-standard-for-pure-sob-list/#findComment-3405999 Share on other sites
Vigrid Of Asgaror
They definitely bring something needed to the table. I think I might start with an Aegis defence line, although a SoB Bastion and Fortress of Redemption sound really cool too. I always wanted to convert a Fortress of Redemption into some sort of cathedral or church you see in the older SoB/WH codexes, but yeah the problem is that a stray Lascannon can destroy it, possibly killing the team in it. A cathedral version of the Fortress of Redemption sounds awesome.
