facmanpob
I DO own as many lascannons I prefer march10k list much better because of the number of marine involved and because I'm always fearful when I see devastator squad of 5 members... I'm not fan of 5 man squads of any type actually... March10k's list had 68 power armoured bodies, mine had 66, so that's not really a reason to choose one over the other. The 5 man unit thing is fair enough though.... I personally don't have a problem with 5 man units. One or two meatshields is fine imo, but I don't want to spend 70 points on 5 meatshields for my devastators. YMMV. Oh, come on! It's only four lascannons Yeah, I know, but I only own 2 I own 5 metal ones. With the plastics you really dont have an excuse to not.... Well, I do have an excuse...... I've only bought 1 devastator box.....so I only have 2 lascannons..... I did buy a tac squad as you suggested (18 months ago), which is why I have 2 Las, 2 PC, 2 HB, a MM and a missile launcher built from that box. [sad violin music] Unfortunately I don't have unlimited funds, otherwise I would fork out for more lascannons....as it stands I haven't been able to buy a single miniature since I got my new DA stuff in January (although the wife would argue that there's no reason to as I still haven't quite finished painting them!)..... Master Avoghai
So do I ;) And I actually miss only the 2nd WW to play it... And guess what? I've still a v2 metal kit to use and I was wondering how good it would look on the v2-like FW rhino kit... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277730-is-our-book-just-a-one-trick-pony/page/3/#findComment-3409262 Share on other sites
Macro
Sorry to be a bit of a noob, but I'm still fairly new on here and haven't learnt all the abreviations. What does BoD mean? I get the DW, RW and GW, but not the BoD, and I bet it's going to be something obvious as well Also, do most of you tend to go solely for DW, RW or GW? My lists are a bit of a mix of all 3, should I look at specialising? Regards. Aradiel
Banner of Devastation i play mostly DW for the simple fact of low number of models. never really liked horde armies. i do have quite a few points of ravenwing, and a full battle company (6 full taticals, 2 assault and 2 devastators, with full comand and specialists and wathever ) edited due to atrocious typos Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277730-is-our-book-just-a-one-trick-pony/page/3/#findComment-3409308 Share on other sites

Master Avoghai
Did I tell you that I love shoes too? ( and don't talk about shirts... I think I have as many as models in my army list above <_< ) However I've found that buying bitz is much more accepted... "Because it's what I need to finish what I already have" ;-) (And actually buying plasma talons helps you getting cheap RWBK when you put it on you DV bike squadron... :P ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277730-is-our-book-just-a-one-trick-pony/page/3/#findComment-3409425 Share on other sites
Brother dean
Nope, I've used that one too but right now I am waiting to buy the Hammernator squad to go with the DWK shields and DW pads I bought off fleabay. But we've gone off topic.... BOOK GOOD!... List of "tricks" All termie army, (Slow and steady, Durable) All bike army, (Speed and focused Firepower) All PA army (All out firepower) Bike/Speeder synergy (Damage reduction) Bike/plane synergy (adds a CC element to the fast firepower) Bike/Termie synergy (Fast Termies) Banner/all the above synergy (Extra Dakka or "Nya Nya... Cant kill me") Granted the different builds take skill to use well, the only one not listed that apparently doesnt work as well is a "Three Wing" army as it doesnt have a defined purpose, (jack of all trades but master of none...) So that brings us to 8 "tricks" of varying usefulness depending on your playstyle Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277730-is-our-book-just-a-one-trick-pony/page/3/#findComment-3409450 Share on other sites

Brother dean
I cannot speak outside of my experience but I imagine that a "Static" Greenwing with Azrael at the head to make bikes scoring to grab late game objectives might be effective. It is also possible to play "fast" Greenwing but I cant do it. (I tried for three editions, That's why I went to Deathwing...) Master Avoghai
Outflanking is a good idea with AB IMO... It's even the best thing to do for preventing easy 1st blood for your opponent. Moreover, it puts the pressure on his lines because I don't know any opponent who likes seeing one or 2 MM riding on their side... Particularly if it is a scoring MM... facmanpob
Banner of DevastationShould really be SoD, for Standard of Devastation......but I prefer Dakkapole like March10k EDIT - ninja'd! Yep, couldn't agree more.....in fact I think a very good RW addition to gunline Greenwing is 2 x 3-bike RAS with 2 x melta each, plus 2 x MMAB....310 points of outflanking melta doom Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277730-is-our-book-just-a-one-trick-pony/page/3/#findComment-3409926 Share on other sites

Brother dean
I havent tried it out yet, (cause the points cost sticker shock) but I do want to run the Banner of Fortitude on a Deathwing Phalanx and just run it up the gut towards objectives.... Purely for the cheese factor of watching my opponents face when "Yes! He Failed a save!" "That squad has FNP".... Knowing me it would be a onefest. march10k
LOL...I would be all about the FNP bubble...if it were the old 4+ FNP...getting a "standard" 5+ not only is "meh," it irks me to feel like we're left out while some (many?) others get 4+ FNP "by exception." Not that 2+/5++ followed by 5+ is bad, per se...well, maybe 5++ followed by 5+ is bad when you consider our model count and points cost, LOL. If only there were a reasonable (taking the command squad, plus the banner, plus knights is not reasonable, you need scoring units so bad that you can't afford more than one nonscoring until at least 2k) way to field deathwing knights with FNP...T5, 2+/3++, FNP? That'd be monstrous./edit/ That's be the level of cheese that I feel like other 6th edition books are capable of, and without crippling their lists in the process. Not that we have a bad codex, I love it.
