SickSix
For your review and criticism. I did my best. I plan on doing another one using the airbrush to get better highlights. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/7/7/514129_sm-Chaplain%2C%20Silver%2C%20Silverskulls%2C%20Skull%2C%20Terminator%20Armor.JPG http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/7/7/514133_sm-Chaplain%2C%20Silver%2C%20Silverskulls%2C%20Skull%2C%20Terminator%20Armor.JPG http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/7/7/514134_sm-Chaplain%2C%20Silver%2C%20Silverskulls%2C%20Skull%2C%20Terminator%20Armor.JPG PS. I just realized I need to tidy up the base edge. I'll knock that out now. GrandMagnus
Its not bad, I think the metallics could use a bit of extra work on them and the belt buckle combining gold and bronze is really blending the colours making it had to distingish the cros. Also he is missing his chapter badge, but thats down to personal preference. Apart from that it looks good, the metallic skull instead of the traditional bone skull is a very cool idea. SickSix
Well ok. I was hoping for a bit better than 'not bad'. What else would you do to the metals? Yes the belt buckle was an early oversight. Didn't want to go back over it. well there really is no space for a chapter badge, I could paint the shoulderpad silver but that is about it. I figure the 'silver skull' would do the job. GrandMagnus
Well for the metals, what I usually do is give them a lot of washes as to dim the shining effect and blend the colours. Black for steel/iron/silver and sepia for gold. But that maybes thats a bit more of personal choice, I dont like shining metals. As far of the "not bad" dont get me wrong, its definetly a good table-top standard. And you did ask for rewiev and criticism. Cpt. Tiberious
I agree with Anaziel on the metal bits particularly the gold. What I do is brown to aid the gold coverage, gold over that, devlin mud wash, pick out details with the original gold color. This makes the gold look used and grim, but maintain a slight luster. I think that would be a nice middle ground for you. But other than that, you did very well. A mini that you can be proud of for sure, kudos. SickSix
Update: I meant to post these pictures way back when but B&C crashed. So I hope the following photos show that the 'gold' which is brass, is not as bright as the first photos showed. The brass was washed with sepia, and then edge highlighted with gold. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/7/16/517682_sm-Chaplain%2C%20Silver%20Skulls%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Terminator%20Armor.JPG http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/7/16/517680_sm-Chaplain%2C%20Silver%20Skulls%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Terminator%20Armor.JPG http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/7/16/517681_sm-Chaplain%2C%20Silver%20Skulls%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Terminator%20Armor.JPG I did not change anything but the photography.
