Studio Silvernale
I picked up a couple tubes of "modified oil" paints that use water to thin or clean up thinking that they wouldn't stink up my hobby room. I haven't used them yet, but now I'm wondering if they will work for washes like standard oil paints. Has anyone tried these? GumbaFish
I have never used regular oil paints but I do own and use several of the water-based oil paints ( I think mine are winsor & newton) for washes on miniatures. They still take a while to dry like oils but do smell much better and you don't have to use any nasty stuff to clean up or thin them which is a bonus. I use them primarily for shading and tinting things. I can dig out a mini I basically basecoated and completely shaded using them if you'd like to see the results. skeletoro
I've just started using them. I'd recommend them. It's nice not having to use yucky mineral spirits. And it's less likely to damage the acrylic underneath. That said, it's probably still going to be worth your while to use a varnish (gloss) underneath the wash just to be safe (and to help the wash flow over the model better).
