Tobinator
I'm creating a new army of a chapter from my own imagination. The lore is that they descend from the night lords but have remained loyal. ashamed of there ancestry, they became intensely religious. Reminded by the still preasant terror tactics, pail skin and eventual black eyes of their ancestors, they are waging a holy but bloody crusade through the galaxy, destroying any heresy, chaos and ancestral scum that they encounter. Although I say ancestral scum, I don't mean that they use the night lords gene-seed. Although the gene-seed is unknown, we cannot tell who it comes from as the records where mysteriously wiped. The founding marines originated from some of the remaining loyalists of the night lords after the great heresy. The night lords themselves thought that all who are part of this newly founded chapter (founded during the second founding) are traitors to the night lords legion, new or not. They have a constant (literal) thirst for blood as another reminding curse "gifted" by the psychers and sorcerors of the night lords for not turning renegade with them. As a result, they have many blood drinking rituals and blood feasts. This pushes them harder in battle as their screaming dry throats and stomachs cry and wail for the warm and wet blood of their foes, causing most of the chapter to prefer close combat rather than ranged and also like to be fast and nimble. As a result, the Angels of Fear (temporary name) are extremely intelligent a knowledgeable from their omophagea gene-seed soaking up vast amounts of information gathered from the almost constant downpour of blood and flesh swallowed and ingested during combat. The blood of any high ranking enemies is reserved for the higher ranked members, causing prisoners to be a common sight. The chapter does not have many vehicles, preferring to feel the fight. During the early post-heresy days, the chapter mainly used tartaros pattern terminator armor, favoring it over the slower armors. However, because of the wide use, and wide demand, many of the armors are now lost, in disrepair of locked away. I'm still working on the lore and look of the army and am open to suggestions. Please tell me what you think. I will be editing this so there might be some comments that don't make sense. Conn Eremon
One thing I'll point out as interesting and feel you should elaborate upon is their enhanced intelligence. The idea that they are or, as is more likely, perceive themselves to be more intelligent than the usual Chapter directly because of their blood rituals and cannibalistic tendencies is a good one. In my mind, it sounds like they consider themselves to have drunk from the wisdom of the ancients. Using their acts of barbarism and savagery as the cause for their rationality and logic. One negative point, why Night Lords? To me, this screams Blood Angels. I'd consider dropping the traitor gene-seed in favor of a Blood Angel successor. If you do go with the Blood Angels, how does Angels Carnelian sound? Carnelian is a dark red, which I'd consider the symbolic color of fear, and it sounds very Blood Angely. soddinnutter
Do not state that they are of traitor stock. It raises way too many questions and the first of which is why haven't they been executed granted absolution by the correct authorities. There are chapters with traitor blood currently on the side of the Imperium. Blood Ravens, Carcharodons/Space Sharks, Emperor's Hands and Grey Knights and possibly a few others. But the thing is that no one knows for sure and it is only hinted at and never stated outright. Give them a brief description of distinctive physical trends and their thing for psychologically screwing with peoples minds. They look like Raven Guard but do not suffer their genetic degeneration, they are not children of the Bloody Angel but thrive off of the blood of the slain. I sort of like the soaking up knowledge through vampiric diet. Sort of reminds me of Underworld. The first one, before they went awful, crap and mediocre respectively. Take into account that there is a maximum amount of information mortal brain can hold and a fairly fixed amount it can soak up at any one time. Perhaps enemy generals and other information rich captives are reserved for the Company Elders who are better suited to sifting through the memories and retaining the useful ones. Also do not forget that the Night Lords and their Progenitor were once dedicated the ideals of justice and law above all else. You could have a chapter that is "It is not the severity of our punishments the guilty fear, it is the utter certainty" rather than "DROWN THEM IN THEIR OWN BLOOD!"
