RileyM
Hello I wanted to showcase the last marine I painted. I'm wondering just how it's perceived by others. As always, self critisizing is hard. All is done using freehand, no stickers or anything. I'm thinking of doing all my marines in this fasion. Clean and well "traveled" with honours and scrolls. I forgot to take a picture from the rear. Once I have a full squad I may open a general "my army thread" (Months from now as I restarted.) http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/872/dsc00063qx.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/1341/dsc00073mi.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278023-an-ultramarine/ Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
Really nice, loving the free-hand most of all the skull on the knee. My only critic would be to add some shadows on the bolter and the armour, in the recesses. Tyrannicide
Very clean paintjob. Really reminds me of the old-school Ultras, as they once were. I agree with Anaziel, looking into washes could be beneficial. Brother Captain Sirus
looks good, free hand work is nice. I am inclined to agree with Anaziel about some additional shading would add to the finish but I like it really does have a touch of old school ultra. Artemid
Nice colors. :) I would see about thinning out the paints a touch though, some of the spots are starting to look fairly bumpy (particularly on the gun and his hands). RileyM
Thanks for the comments! :) The blue parts actually have some darker shading in the recesses, however it's far too light. I didn't do the red on the bolter. Certainly things to put on the list. This particular marine took well over two months as I was learning some new techniques. I'm going to alter my painting method to speed things up though. This one was from the bottom up; black basecoat, dark colours, lighter and lighter. The armour parts were painstakingly painted one by one. For just tactical marines this takes far too much time. I think this marine used to have different colours (painted over). However I do have(had?) an issue with patience so my paint may just be too thick anyway. Thanks for the critique, well appreciated.
