Blood angels WIP

Recommended Posts

Hello and thanks for tuning in!

It appears both my account and my original thread were deleted during the maintenance of the server (warp storm) today. Regardless - I will seize this opportunity to create my own WIP thread, encompassing my entire BA army. Not just some silly tactical marines!

Speaking of which, here are some new updates! I've finished the legs (minus some details) of my second tactical marine

And here is my attempt at some freehand for his shoulder pad. I should immediately state that freehand painting never has been my strongest side! ;)

I tried to capture the primal rage of Sanguinius as he discovered Horus' heresy. I do think the face needs some additional shading before I'll call it finished, though. I will get to that after a good night's sleep!

Any comments/constructive criticism is most welcome, as always! :)

Glad you survived the apocalypse, mate. :) Must say that freehand work is pretty damn good, I especially love the depth to the background around the face. The way it fades into the black makes it appear almost three dimensional. Reminds me of a little portrait miniature, surrounded by that gold circle like that. :)

Thanks a lot for your kind words, I really appreciate it!

I have now finished the face. I tried to give it some more depth in order to make it more menacing, and I made some brush-ups in general to the features. Also, I changed the colour of the rim of the shoulder pad from gold to red. I figured, since he's just a regular trooper, I shouldn't get too carried away with the colour scheme.

I hope the difference is discernible despite the somewhat blurry pictures!

Damn, that red blink.png

I know it's already been said, but once more couldn't hurt tongue.png

Is it airbrush? If you can do that by hand, I may have to eat you and absorb your powers...

*Looks suspiciously at Firepower* laugh.png

However, I definitely share the sentiment. I double taked at the first picture, the red is so lush! happy.png The freehand is very nice, especially considering the size of the area it was painted on! smile.png

Thank you a lot for the kind words guys, they really inspire to keep on painting!

I have never used an airbrush, but I take that as a big compliment. Not sure about being consumed though! I fear my girlfriend might categorize that as cheating..

The freehand has turned into a royal pain, I can't stop modifying it! Once I've looked at it enough, I decide something needs fixing. I need to move on tomorrow!

Hmmm, let's see...Danish would probably go best with some sriracha sauce for a nice, good kick...

I just gotta place an order for a really big fork.

Cheers batu, I've now officially moved on to the rest of his arm.

Ok, I know this is minor, but since pics of xenos are banned from these forums, I have to get your opinions on the metals of my first bolter! I am looking for a tone that will marry well with the red.. Any advice/constructive criticism is welcome!

Thanks for the feedback on the metals batu! :)

It's been a long time since my last update - the first marine is finally starting to come together! Unfortunately, his armour has taken on a very glossy look, probably because I've handled him too much. I guess I need to find a better way of holding my minis while painting..

Anyway, I hope you can distract from this fact and tell me what you think :)

I think he looks terrific. Love the freehand and I love that shade of red too. Your blending skills are quite impressive as well.

If you keep up the excellent work, you may have a whole army done sometime in the next century :P

Thanks a lot for the praise guys! It warms my heart.

I'm afraid your prophecy isn't that far from the truth, Ludovic! I'm thinking about adopting some speed painting technique for my assault on black reach marines, and use them as troops, and only spend this much time and effort on terminators and heroes! :P
