Blood angels WIP

He looks superb, mate. Really, really stunning. I too suffered from the same problem of handling, but I have since solved it. I paint my marines in sub assemblies, so head, shoulder pads, backpacks and weapon are all separate. That's a lot of little bit that can easily get misplaced. I used to pin/bluetac them to old paintpots, but that wasn't satisfactory, and on more than one model took up a lot of space, or required lots of pot swapping which necessitated the aforementioned undesirable handling. I've now started pinning them into holes drilled into the top of little 6 inch lengths of dowel. these dowels have a round neodymium magnet glued to the other end, so when they're not being painted they can all be lined up neatly in a row stuck tightly to a steel ruler on my desk. smile.png Works rather well. smile.png

Wow, thanks for the nice words guys! And thanks for the advice on the handling laborious! I Will try it out.

Won't be any updates for some time now, going on vacation for 2 weeks.

Again, thanks for your interest and encouragement! Really made my day :)

P.s red is: merchite red, blended to blood red and on to firey orange. Shades are done with thinned down DA green.

Very impressive! With regards to C&C I'd say try to maintain a 5 o'clock shadow. You can see on places like the right foot that the highlight carries over across the foot, but really it shouldn't do that unless he's standing in a light box. pinch.gif If you're glazing to achieve better blends then consider adding a dab of matte medium to remove some of the shine. For the metal you could add a touch of turquoise to the black wash for the shading, and ice blue for the highlights.

Thanks for the feedback DarkMark! I can see what you mean with the light source, but I actually haven't given it much thought. On the other hand, I don't strive to work with one fixed light source, I pretty much go with whatever feels good for every armour piece. I know this is very un-academic, but so is my approach to the hobby in general ;)

I don't  routinely employ glazes in my blends. I find that they often dampen the highlights too much. But I like the sound of that thing - matte medium! Will check it out.

Ok, so here is the first update in forever!

I've made some serious (in my opinion) progress on Battle-brother Decimus. The only area lacking some love at the moment is the helmet.

I hope you like him!

So, here is my christmas gift for my girlfriend; a battle sister! She (the battle sister ;) ) also serves as the expermenting ground for the colour scheme I'm going to use for the sanguinary guard (primarily the gold). Please let me know what you think.

I know that the red clothing needs some additional attention. For some peculiar reason, I find red substantially more difficult to pull off on clothes than on armour!

As always; any thoughts, comments and/or jovial remarks you may have are most welcome!

Battle-brother Decimus is perfection.

I like the gold, though it seems a little rich (lol) though I don't really know what im talking about. surprised your not doing NMM.

your missus sounds cool, you should marry her. and spend money on her (they like it when you do that)

you're right about setting the record for the slowest log in history, though its well worth the wait!

now to go back and stare at those amazing freehands, and try to puzzle out how you did it....

my god man! what size brush do you use?

Thanks for your comments and for the kind words :)

Yeah, I was actually surprised at the poor sculpting quality of the SoB-minis. It's even more palpable once you've tried painting some FW-stuff!

She is actually pretty cool, she is even open to painting a mini of her own! ;) A keeper for sure!

I use wilson smith coltau series 00 for all detail work. However, any brush with a small tip will suffice ;)

I will try to get hold of a better camera and post some better pictures, once I've finished her!

Thank you a lot :) Waaaay too long to be able to create a coherent force in one lifetime ;) No, but effective paint time - about 20 hours? Another significant contributor to the agonizingly slow rate of progress is my studies, which currently are pretty diabolic. This means I don't have that many evenings/weekends to paint.

So, the SoB is finally finished! I was actually shocked at the poor sculpting of certain details; nothing is more frustrating theb when a tube looks a mess because the sculptor couldn't be bothered to make it fluted all the way!!

Anyway, I think she turned out ok. I would have used more time for touch-ups if christmas wasn't around the bend! I have decided to use the same recipe for Angron's armour as I did for the SoB. Feedback appreciated :)

So, here is my first update on project Angron. It's a true pleasure to paint such a beautiful sculpt!

I am torn on the color scheme for the gold. I am generally satisfied with it, but sometimes when i look at it I feel that it's a bit plain. Your honest opinions are welcome! I included the second picture so you'd get an impression of how stark the contrasts really are; strong light sources kill blends with metallics.
