Best Ally?

I have been playing Blood Angels for roughly 10 years now and don't want to stop playing them. I am a competitive player and don't mind loosing everyone once in a while but, lately I have been getting my butt kicked around by Tau, Necrons, Eldar, and Hell Drakes. I am loosing more than I am winning. Now I am not the best player out there, but I consider myself better than the average player.

Though it loathes me to do so, I have finally resigned to allying with another army so that my beloved army can have a better shot at winning. What are some successful tactics to use with the BA and what allies compliment us the best?

I don't own any allies per say, but I do quite well when I ally with a friends guard (couple of blobs, maybe a vendetta and some big guns) they seem to fill in the gaps we lack. I do like the idea of Dark Angel allies also, check out Morticon's thread in the army list section as he is having success with them (Dark Vengeance also provides cheap dudes). The forthcoming Vanilla codex should provide some more decent options in a months time.

It depends on your army list really on who you would need to bring. if you run.lots of assault squads then rave wing knights would be good from dark angels. Tau and guard are always good choices because of the amount of shooting you can get. Like I said it depends on what you want to do and tiu list you in.

Guys, if you don't want this thread to lock you're going to have to stick to B&C appropriate allies.

OT

I like GK henchmen allies for their flexibility, modelling potential and opportunity to paint something different.

If you need a backfield objective holder a mixture of heavy weapon servitors, storm bolter or plain bolter henchmen, Jokaero's and various Inquisitor builds give you a lot of fire power.

On the other hand if you want something to help boost your CC punch Death Cult Assassins and Crusaders, maybe with a couple of Arco Flagellants, give you a very potent unit to throw in alongside an assault squad.

I have had some luck with the IG. I'm usually short on long-range shooting and scoring, and they bring it cheap and easy. And it plays to the fluff center of my brain as well as I drive my BA into the heart of the enemy while being supported by IG guns.

I would also hold out to see the new SM codex when it drops. It might make sense to run with SM allies (or an entire SM force that just *happens* to be painted red).

Recently I played a game allied with my friends GKs.  I noticed one option really turned the game for us, and it was as simple as taking 2 regular GK marines with warp quake.  Nothing was able to get into our deployment zone, and he was forced to sit back far enough for us to just tear him to bits (I use a vehicle army).  for 225 points you get 2 squads of 5 and an inquisitor kill point :p

This. I like a simple and effective GK ally:

-Coteaz for cool special rules, cheap price tag and psychic powers (divination)

-Vindicare assassin for some sniping firepower

-Small henchman squad consisting of 3 acolytes with laspistols and 1 with meltagun (26 pts for a scoring squad!)

-Another henchman squad to escort Coteaz, with a few gun servitors (e.g. 2x heavy bolter and 1x multi-melta) and a couple of crusaders (invulnerable saves)

There. My pick for an ally. Comes together just above 300 pts with 2 scoring units, nice firepower and a good support HQ.
