Can we make the burning chariot good?

Hello fellow daemonplayers (and others). I bought a while ago a burning chariot as i really likted it. i know that I read on diffrent forum and blogs that they where not, specially as it can´t go and shoot (GW, please change this in an errata). I started to play with it and sadly it has done nothing for me :(  What everyone wrote is true. Sad but true

Still I love the model, think it can do nice damage if you can make it work and my question is what can we do to make it work better? Any advice, tactical tip etc! How do you think you can get it to work? Please help.

p.s Take this is as a challenge ;)

You can still snapfire the blue fire after moving but that's it. It has too low of an armor value for something that has to wait for the enemy to come within medium to short range before it can be effective and costs way too much for a simple chariot. I don't see any way to make it Relentless. Even Scout would help but that's not an option either.

You could try deploying it in cover about 12" behind an objective and hope the enemy gets in range without taking it out with bolter fire at 24" first ....

Nope. It's a lost cause. It is little more than a 100 point ornament in a game.

House rule it with your group to have Relentless. That's really the only way to possibly make it play-worthy.

- It cannot move and be effective, but has no armor to protect it at range.

- It's weapons are short ranged, but see above.

So what can it do? Stay in reserves, stay behind 4+ cover, hide.

Until it gets relentless, there's absolutely nothing it can do that a Nurgle Soulgrinder can't do so much better.

I wish I knew what the intention of this unit was.  Did they give the rider Heavy weapons in order to keep it from assaulting after shooting?  Not giving it Relentlss and giving the rider the weapons instead of mounting them on the charriot seems like it was done intentionally to keep them from being Relentless but it also makes the short ranged Heavy weapons pointless.  Did they intend for it to be stationary fire support?  I don't lknow.  But I am pretty sure they did not intend to make it a short ranged shooter that can not move and fire.

I can think of several things that could be done to make the unit playable, fun and random like the fluff sugguests.  Right now the easy solution is to either make the unit Relentless or change the weapon profile to Assault x.

I tihnky ou are right that Gw was supposed to give it relentless (or just treat it as a ordinary chariot) but they made a big mistake in forgetting there own rules and that´s why it is as it is.

The strange thing is why they don´t fix it? So easy ( a small errata update) and it would help them as more models would be sold! Right now few people buys it as it´s not good enough.

Take it as a challenge? Alright then.

The first question is what version of the chariot are you referring to? As a Heavy Support, there are no efficien redeeming qualities. But as transport? Options open up.

Obviously, as Daemon main the chariot is sill lacking as a ride for a herald, because the ride keeps the Herald from using presence and spreading the locus. So not worth it. But if you're taking Daemons as the allies, then the chariot actually becomes a nice way of bussing around our Divination caster. With only 1 HQ slot available, it will compete with a Lord of Change for the glory, but the Herald might wind up being faster and a bit harder to kill (Depending what your opponent takes).

The clincher of using the Chariot as a transport is that, the way I read the rules, there is nothing that is preventing you from having a rider with the Grimoire target it to get access to a 3++ save, re-rolling 1s. Coupled with speed from a fast chariot, and you can send divination buffs to your main detachment wherever you want. The only catch is you have to have allies for it to be worth it.

Just my 2 cents. :)

My friend had an idea for his all-Tzeentch list that might have a little merit.

His 2k list is the following:

Fateweaver

Herald - L3, Grimoire

Herald - L3

Herald - L3

20 Horrors

20 Horrors

20 Horrors

5 Flamers

5 Flamers

5 Flamers

5 Screamers

5 Screamers

5 Screamers

He wants to fit in a couple and do the following: move forward and flat out to get in their face (along with the other fast stuff). Overwhelm the target priority with everything fast and shoot. If they survive, they wreck face next turn. If they die, then all those daemons didn't. Seems like win-win.
