Surrender_Monkey
I'm just assembling/magnetising the first Land Speeder for my new Angels of Absolution army and I've hit a snag. I'm not sure where the bone bodywork of the chapter colours stops and the darker underside should begin. I've painted a couple of speeders before for my Crimson Fists, and for them I started from a black undercoat and left the underside black. Even though I didn't execute it well the transition from the dark blue bodywork to black underside wasn't obvious and so didn't really detract from the model. One thing I'm thinking of doing is spraying the underside body pieces black and the topside pieces with my usual white before assembly and having a hard edge where the two meet. I've been looking around for pictures of light coloured speeders but of course nobody is taking any pictures from below, so if any of you guys feel like taking some pictures from that angle it would be appreciated. Also If anyone has any ideas on the best way to magnetise the Typhoon launchers and standard doors that would be useful too. elmo
If you click here you can see how I magnetised my Typhoon launchers - can't help on the colours though as I have Ravenwing ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278153-painting-the-underside-of-a-land-speeder/#findComment-3414230 Share on other sites
Surrender_Monkey
Your method is what I thought to be the obvious way of doing it, but I'm not desperately keen on having a hole in the door when I'm not fielding them as Typhoons. I think you can get away with the hole much better with the black Ravenwing colours than bone white Angels of Absolution. I saw these and thought they look quite nice, he has mounted the typhoon bods under the wings, but I am thinking of moving them to a flat piece of the underside just in front of the wings, since I am not sure the wings are thick enough to fit a magnet on the underside. As for the underside, I saw a couple like this where the underside has been done in chapter colours, but I'm still not convinced it will look right in bone white. Bryan Blaire
Paint the extrusions as metal, but all the flat plate in bone? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278153-painting-the-underside-of-a-land-speeder/#findComment-3414497 Share on other sites
