legalsars
I think that the rune priests runic staff nullification will either go up significantly in price or be done away with entirely. The hunters have benefits in that they get Bolter, pistol and CC weapon, but really, do we have it all that great at leadership 8? If you want to increase that you have to forgo the second special weapon, pay for A UNIT of wolfguard, second one off to the GH unit, and then it only bumps them to 9 for a significant increase. I can see a point increase, but being someone who plays other marine armies as well, its a lot of blubbering for nothing. Vanilla marines get heavy weapons and combat squads, as well as actual sergeants that can bump LD. DA, same, blood angels can take rocket packs, and chaos marines are so customizable its hilarious. We have one viable troop choice that works as jack of all trades, one that is a liability and needs full numbers to be good, and a highly priced character unlocked troop choice or two, neither of which are particularly cost effective for what they do, I can see Jaws of the World Wolf getting either reworked or completely changed. I think that the longfangs will likely get their fire control changed to regular split fire. I think we will STILL not have fliers, but possibly get frag missiles, some sort of AA weaponry/upgrade. No deepstrike. If the guy who writes the book puts in deep strike so help me God.... Squark
Couple of responses, Legalsars; -Wolf Guard Pack leaders are... odd, when you're dealing with comparitive pricing. A Veteran Sgt. (Their functional equivilent) is a ten point upgrade (sometimes mandatory, depending on the codex) to a squad. We pay 18 points for a wolf Guard Pack leader... But, he's an extra model. If you're keeping your pack at ten men, he only costs 3 points, and you'll make that up if you give him a power weapon or power fist. But, this comes at the cost of the second special weapon unless you go to 11 models (Granted, the trend is no more free special weapons, so that'll hurt less when the update comes). So, in a 10 man squad, he's cheaper than a veteran sergeant, but he comes at the cost of a second special weapon. In a foot squad, he costs the full 18 points, but hey, eleventh model! How do either of these options stack up against a Veteran Sgt? Well, that depends on the situation... -The Elites slot tax hurt in 5th edition, but with wolf scouts no longer being a must take, you've got 2 slots open for dreadnaughts or Lone Wolves. We don't really have room for 3 of either of those, anyway. -Blood Angels Assault marines are, sadly, a bit of a joke at the moment. If they're jumping, they're in roughly the same boat as blood claws (a little better, but still getting shot up before they assault. And without the luxury of the extra 5 models). Meanwhile Fast Rhinos are a joke, and with MSU dead, plaserbacks only work as gun tanks- And if you're using it as a gun-tank, you might as well take a tactical squad. -The heavy weapon in a tactical squad is a mixed blessing. It's useful sometimes, but being able to keep the squad at 10 members and still have both weapons suitable for firing at the same target (and not snap firing if you move) is a pretty big advantage.
