I have a question..

Hi! I`m new to this forum and I came here to seek advise. Several members of my local hobby-club say that Space wolves terminators can´t deep strike, so I check things up and I can´t find the rule that says that I can´t deep strike. What I find is this:  " NB: Though the terminators of the other space marines chapters often teleport straight into battle, Space wolves have a deep mistrust of such arcane tactics and prefer to fight with their feet on solid ground, just as Russ intended." What do you guys say about it?

in general space wolves distrust teleportation(which represents the deep striking). instead we deploy our terminators via droppods, which are more reliable.

Note that this doesn't mean we don't use teleportation when needed! heck, the gate (the 13th company psychic power) was the only way those guys could move from one planet to the other inside the warp!

The Space Marines Codex specifically states that there terminators can deep strike. (C:SM, P102)

Returning to the Space Wolves Codex, it does not say that Terminator Armor can deep strike. Therefore, they can not by rule of omission.

To summarize, terminators are Relentless, Bulky, can not perform a sweeping advance, have a 2+ armor save, 5+ invulnerable save, and can not embark on rhinos and razorbacks. (C:SW, P61) It does not say they can deep strike.

As stated above, it is notable that we are the only chapter (that I'm aware of) that can use drop pods for terminators. (C:SW, P86) It is clearly stated that drop pods may be selected as dedicated transports, allowing our Wolf Guard to use drop pods, even when taking terminator armor. Note, only 5 terminators can be put in a drop pod at once, as we have the true transport capacity of drop pods, which is 10, and terminators take up two transport slots in a transport. (USR: Bulky)

Long Story short, teleporting has a tendency to leave veterans wearing priceless relics buried kilometers underground. Or worse. As such, being the Primarch of the smallest of the legions, Russ avoided using using teleportation to deploy his forces wherever he could, and it's a practice the modern wolves have kept.

I just mentioned this in another recent thread, but the only reason that our Terminators cannot teleport is because Jervis Johnson had to take a couple things away from the Space Wolves to help offset the several big advantages he had given them: True Grit, Acute Senses, and Counterattack.... all for free!

It's no real disadvantage, however, as we ended up being the only Chapter with Terminators who have access to Drop Pods, which despite costing points, grant several distinct advantages over Deep Striking via Teleportation. Most significant is the guaranteed safe landing afforded by the Inertial Guidance system, but Drop Pod Assault, Deployable Cover, and the Storm Bolter all make the loss of Teleportation and gain of Pods work very much in our favor.

Yea, I would much have the inertial guidance system and 6" deployment then being bundled up in a nice tight teleported circle, being unable to move, and waiting for a str10, ap2 pie plate landing on me.

and we can blast away at the nearest ugly thing the same turn, instead of hoping they survive the inevitable bulk of enemy fire.
