What is Kill Team?

I'm starting up some Warhammer 40K with a few friends but we're not interested (at least right now) in investing heavily in the game. I was searching around for some small-scale scenarios and came across a few mentions of "Kill Team" rules. Would this be suitable for 500 point armies?

Cheers.

Kill team is really designed for 200 points or less. However, 500 point games can be played using the normal rules for a good time. Make sure everyone agrees to use allcomer lists and there won't be much spamming either. I think starting off with 500 points and keeping the minimum 2 troops 1 hq actually encourages more balanced and tactical gameplay, rather than removing all minimums which becomes: look at my terminators and two heldrakes.

Here is a link to the rules from GW's last Kill Team event.

It will give you a good idea on what it's about.

There is also another set of rules similar to Kill Team called Combat Patrol that is intended for 400 points games.

These are not official rules but then I don't think Kill Team rules are anymore either.  Take a look at these and maybe Google up some other Kill Team Rules then adjust them to fit what you need.  Nothing with an AV, start with one specialist, the whole army gains +1 Ld for every model they kill and -1 Ld for every model they lose, that sort of stuff.

Oh ... Every fully painted army has Hatred (Plastic) and Preferred Enemy (Plastic).  That rule can never be changed :D
