Centurion Allies

So, GKs are still one of the top armies out there, but I think we may have just gotten a serious potential shot in the arm with the upcoming SM codex: Devastator Centurions.

One of the few GK weaknesses is long range anti-tank and anti-MEQ fire power.

Well, imagine taking an allied detachment of:

HQ

-Tigurius

TR

-10 x Sniper Scouts with Tellion

HS

-6 x Centurions with Gravcannons/Amps

-Aegis Line with Quadgun

Scouts and Tellion man the Aegis Line/Quadgun, providing backfield scoring and fire support

Tigurius gives Centurions Prescience and (hopefully, with re-rolls of powers) Forewarning and Perfect Timing. That makes the Centurions have 2+/4++ (Forewarning) T5 W2 each, plus put out a total of 30 Twin-Linked (prescience) Gravcannons shots that can be fired on the move and ignore cover (Perfect Timing). On average, that is (23) dead MEQs, (17) dead Tactical Terminators, (8-9) dead Assault Terminators, (15) unsaved wounds against a Wraithknight, or (17) unsaved wounds against a Riptide per turn of shooting, all with a range of 6" move + 24" shooting.

Not bad at all for GK fire support, huh? ;)

Also, for those interested in the fluff side, you could actually make the Scout Snipers + Tellion modeled as an Inquisitor and his band of Sniper Warrior Acoylets or Sniper Servitors. Tigurius and Centurions could be modeled as a unique GK Librarian (Tigurius counts as) leading a squad of special GK "Heavy Purgator" Squad equipped with Nemesis Dreadarmor (somewhere between Terminator Armor and a Dreadknight).

Pretty dirty. I like it!

The thing is though, those grav-cannons only have 24" range. So, they just contribute to our problem of being a mid-field army, they don't help in the same way that a couple of PsyDreads or even a DK does (the former works great as anti-Flyer and transport, the latter can murder any non-Flyer provided it makes it into charge range).

TBH we don't need to spend a lot of points to get anti-Terminator/Marine firepower into our lists. Coteaz unlocks plasma cannon servitor Troops, and you can field multiple squads provided you have Inquisitors to prevent 'Mind-Lock' and provide 'Prescience' (re-rolling 'Gets Hot' is fantastic, not to mention re-rolling scatter). Not as tough as Centurions, its true, but you can get three plasma servitors for the price of a single Centurion, so they're really cost-efficient.

Not what I'd compare them to, as no one on Earth takes Hellfire Dreads anymore. Compared to the PsyDread, I think Dev Centurions come out favourably. (shrug) Just a question of whether your meta kills AV12 or 2+ armour more. I'm gonna try out the Centurions for sure, I've been finding PsyDreads lackluster against Necron AV13.
