Julgolax
I want to, eventually start a DIY chapter called the Solar Knights. One of the themes of this chapter I've chosen is the incorporation of the Flameberge style swords for their power swords. I've been looking at the Empire Greatswords for this design of course but I'm not entirely sure how I could convert these swords into a 40K setting. Where to cut, how to do the handles, and how to create my own Flamegerge swords if I want to with greenstuff. I need your help please! Can you help me? Brother Tyler
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame-bladed_sword A simple way to achieve this might be to use a file. There are two basic patterns for the blade. The first is with the waves alternating, as in this picture. An alternate pattern is where the pattern is symmetrical, as seen in this drawing. Both can be achieved on a model in a similar manner. Simply use a file to gently shape the blade. You can use different shapes of files and file at different points for different effects - whether rounded, triangular, etc. You might want to mark the blade with small paint daubs first in order to set up your filing plan. Once you've filed the shapes, then you simply have to sharpen the blade by carefully filing. Using the Empire Greatswords, simply cut them so that the blade and guard are retained, then replace the blade and guard of the models you're using them on. If you want to save money (i.e., if you plan on using lots of these blades and don't want to buy more than one box of Empire Greatswords), use green stuff casting to create press molds. You can find tutorials here in PCA. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278579-need-advice-for-signature-theme/#findComment-3427064 Share on other sites
Julgolax
Sounds good, these press molds. No plastic ingot melting required? I'll have to take a look at the article. I'm rather inspired by the Empire's use of flaming meteors in fantasy, could the press molds be used to make little shields (like the Iron Knights) that present the images I'm thinking of as well? Like here, on his hammers and shoulder pinion: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2350663a_99800202007_WarriorPriestCFC01_873x627.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278579-need-advice-for-signature-theme/#findComment-3427071 Share on other sites
Brother Tyler
Yes, though a little bit of work will be required to make them separate from the models (i.e., to create stand-alone shields without all of the stuff behind them on the mini you linked). Julgolax
Well, it certainly would seem the answer is clear about the greatswords but also, are they the right size? I've never seen an Empire Greatsword unit in person, let alone purchased one. I wouldn't want a space marine army wielding kriss daggers, I'm after Flameberges!
