Space Marine Command Squad Instructions

Recommended Posts

Hi. I used to paint 40k stuff about 15 years ago and I've just been put on garden leave for a month before I start a new job, so I thought I'd have a go. Been meaning to for years but never really had the time.

Anyway, I bought a Command Squad off eBay - just the sprues - and this is all new. I'm used to metal miniatures where all you need to is attach the arms and back, maybe the weapons. Not so with this thing. I've looked all over online and can't find a copy of the assembly instructions anywhere. Can anyone help please?

Thanks!

well the point of the multipart plastic kits is that they are extremely customisable and posable. there isnt a correct way to build them, you build them depending on what you think looks cool and how you want them to be equipped in game.

start out with the front and back of the body. then glue the legs to the bases and the body to the legs. next the arms, then head, then shoulder pads and back packs.

good luck

Is it the Generic boxset? As in the one with the ultramarines on the cover? If so, I actually have them. Having bought two kits, I didn't need to look at them the second time. If you want I can post them over to you smile.png Just PM me where you want them sending to happy.png

BUY BLUE-TAC so you can play with the poses. "Space Marine fashion show" is a game unto itself, and promises hours of fun smile.png

Thank god its not just me who does this.

Have a look on GW's web site at the command squad as it shows you all 5 assembled minis

For an inexperienced gamer he may make them just as the picture though and it's not a very good set up.

I do think you can pretty much mix and match to taste. However, I'd glue the front and back torsos together straight away, and keep the 'standing up straight legs' for the standard. I think waiting a couple of weeks for the new codex is a good idea. Just clean up and paint the bits separately till then.

Yeh, if you plan on using them in a game, ask around in the Index Astartes subforum for loadout advice. Gluing them all together straight away makes painting a nightmare. Mould lines are also something you'll need to tackle before full assembly (especially those on the arms, helmets and backpacks.

Like a lot of people, I start with the torso and legs stuck together, then attach that to the base (which has had grit or what-have-you stuck to it with PVA glue). Next, I dry-fit the arms using a very small amount of blu-tac at each shoulder, to get the pose I want. If it's a rifle or other two-handed weapon, I usually glue it to the gripping arm (not the supporting arm).

I always do shoulder pads after everything else is posed, because if you fit them exactly over the tops of the arms before the whole model is assembled, they don't look right. You usually want them sit at a different angle to the shoulder/torso connecting face, slightly overhanging the torso to the left and right of the collar.

Thanks all for your replies. Aquilanus sent me photos of the instructions, which was really helpful. I just st wanted to make sure I wasn't sticking a standard bearing arm to an apothecary's body or something equally stupid really.

I'm not going to be playing them so they don't need to be codex-compliant but I'd rather they weren't completely wrong!

Took me an hour to do-flash and stick together a standard-bearer (minus the standard) the other night butI'm on with the painting now, so all good. Undercoated, base coated and mid-toned now, so I'm getting there. The biggest problems I'm having are my hands shaking a lot more than they used to and the paint drying too quick, even watered down, but I reckon it's looking ok so far.

Thanks again for all the comments.

*de-flash.

I just started on my own Ultramarine Tac squad (they're going to be Dark Angels though) in another thread.  Feel free to learn from my mistakes >.>
