Dark Angels were my first ever army way back in 1994, sold them (2000pts for £15) so after eighteen years away... I'm back on the Rock.

Bah...your haul aint got :cuss on mine.  A few years ago, I got 42 metal GMOTRW shoulder pads (winged sword with actual wings...much better than the actual chapter icon) for $30.  Enough for four full tactical squads ~happydance~

I have to say that when I've thought I've got a 'bargain' invariably the models' build quality is pretty awful that you need to look at them through half-shut eyes before they become acceptable. Certainly happened more than once to me - I normally try to resell them or just give them to my boys. Not an issue with sprued items of course.

Caveat emptor as they say <_<.

Had that a couple of times.

However Dettol weakens super glue as well as strip paint so never had a problem (don't use with finecast though).

Highest concentration of isopropyl alcohol you can find. It strips down paint and weakens super glue. Just let them soak overnight and hit them with an old tooth brush.

Yeah, ebay bargains aren't usually great quality but I'm happy to put in remedial work if there's a need.

These ones don't cause me any real concern though. The pics on the auction were clear and zoomable and most, if not all, of what has already been built are snap-fit minis that you'd have to really work to mess up.

Delivery is expected between Sept. 4th and 11th and I already have most, if not all of the bits I initially need to build a 2k army since I have tons of terribly painted Marines lying around and I've filched a lot of stuff that was bound for my BA.

In fact, with the stuff I have lying around at home and this lot I only need to buy a Whirlwind to make up a complete 3500pt DA army.

I also have what I think is a pretty sweet idea of a 'conversion' involving Seraphicus, an Attack Bike, the sensor thingamabob from the LS Vengeance and  a mobile pulpit.

So stay tuned for my WIP.

  • 1 month later...

Well, as my boss has been off sick for a month and I've had to do all his work as well as my own I have yet to make start on these boyos. Which is poo, but also works rather well because I've started to have some reservations as to whether I should build them as DA or as a successor.

That said, I don't know much about the DA successors other than what's in the codex so I was rather hoping that you fine people might be able to steer me in one direction or the other.

There is one thing, though. I'm an insanely lazy and unskilled painter so halved or quartered schemes are off the board.

There's very little official detail on our successor chapters that isn't in the codex. As you've got the Dark Vengeance tactical squad with the winged sword moulded on the shoulder I suggest Dark Angels, but don't let that stop you creating your own chapter with that badge if you feel inspired.

caveat emptor, indeed...which is why it's best to buy sprue whenever possible. The only time I haven't was when I bought 12 TK chariots for $30. They were about half assembled and a few bits had partial paint. But for $2.50 each? That's 80% off of the original price, do even if I'd only been able to use half of them, I would have been happy.

  • 5 months later...

So, some seven months after having acquired this lot, I put the first mini together yesterday. Sort of, anyway. He needs mold-lines removed and he's missing three shoulder pads, but he's pretty much built.

This is going to be his main weaponry;

I wasn't thrilled with the angle of the Sword of Silence and it was so warped I honestly couldn't be bothered to even try and fix it;

Don't really know if I'll ever use the Claws but I had them spare so why not?

Ya, it's Scibor.

The back of it is blank so I used a Grey Knight Terminator arm and attached it to the flat panel.

I want one for my Belial too, but I don't need three, lol. Will have to get one at some point. I have been wanting to strip and repaint my TH//SS Belial for a while now, this might be the push.
