Unkindness of Ravens - XIX Legion

Here is the start of my XIX legion army. Hopefully will get more painted then my other Raven Guard army.

First up the Praetor. Apart from smoothing of the green stuff the Praetor is ready to paint:

I realise that mark III will probably look odd on the Raven Guard, but the army is set during the great crusade, and I see the Praetor is a Terran. I plan to add a 5 man command squad in mark III which will represent the last few Terrans in the company.

Also put together my first destroyer. I love the underslung missile launcher but wanted to slightly change the pose as I will likely have 2 of them. Note the rather poor first attempt at sculpting a raven skull. Will hopefully improve with that.

Lastly, a veteran. I wanted to see how easy it was to convert the Raven Guard Corvus armour to Mark IV. Wasn't to bad but due to cost will keep this for veterans. I think the Reaver helm can give a more avian feel, but needs some work.

Background wise the army is set before the end of the great crusade and represents a force that would have deployed on Isstvan V. The company was originally known for void assaults, hence the mark III n the Terrans, and I will try and carry this through on other, Terran, models. The majority of the army will be mark IV, and from Kiavahr and Deliverance. I think the former freedom fighters from Deliverance could make some good character models. At he moment I plan for only one Mark VI suit, a prototype, but this may change when Forge World bring out there Raven Guard stuff.

I would love some feedback from you guys.

Nice conversions.

You don't have to use the body with the bolt pistol for the missile laucher; just remove the empty holster(s) from another body, stick a new holstered bolt pistol on the hip if necessary, and voilà! different pose. You can swap 'belt loadout' of two destroyers if you're careful enough with your hobby knife.

If you end up with more destroyer bodies than you need, just use them as artificier-armored sergeants in your mkIV squads.

He's yelling and kicking, but not actually looking at the marine?

I liked that part, seemed to me as one of those fight-loving hardarses who always picture an audience watching every battle of theirs. So he's yelling something like "The Emperor YOUR FACE" or "Booyakasha!" to a thousand imaginary people in an imaginary arena.

Been working on this guy, something is bothering me about him though, not sure what. Any thoughts:

Nice pose, nice action, nice modelling! Though, in my opinion, the shoulder pads could use to be a bit further in towards the body, if you know what I mean. Just 1mm or so...

Thanks for your help guys.

I have added some stuff to the waist to bulk him out, repositioned the sword and shield a bit, and moved the head forward a bit. I sort of imagine he has smacked him one with the combat shield and is using him as a launching pad to get to his next target.

Possibly the best shot of where his legs are, also shows how much cleaning up is needed!
