Unkindness of Ravens - XIX Legion

Think I can get a lot more character into my models with the Night Lords, the mix of brutality with the lightening assault tactics.

That's the problem with 'nice' loyalists, you can't cover them in morbid trophies. I mean, can you imagine a Salamander with a half-dead guardsman strapped to his storm shield?

Of course I can. That man needs aid asap and clearly that Salamander is using the most of the resources he has on hand to create a suitable stretcher with which he can get him to the medicae for some proper help.

Here's to you, unnamed Salamander. You're a god damned hero.

Nice minis brother, only two things about the "this is Sparta" guy. 1: if this is end of the crusade, why is he kicking a marine in the face? 2: his arms look... very long and weird. I dont know if thats on purpose.

I decided to swap to an Isstvan V force. Massacre caught my attention. As for the arms im not sure. Going to restart the champ, the pose needs work.

KotR: I know. I think i have had a frustrating day and i want to take it out on little plastic men. But i will stay true to the Emperor and Corax.

Ok so have been thinking, may forget the whole Isstvan thing (which means no Legion champ, or at least not in his current form) and, inspired by 1000heathens, consider the force organisation. I think this is a good way to get a feel for the army and build a narrative instead of just picking units from the book.

I think it makes sense for a RG Company to contain a Rapid Insertion force with attached pathfinders. So going from that I will start with the first men on the ground, the pathfinders - Vigilator, Vets(sniper and outflank make them feel recon-y), recon squads, and Seekers. Then I will add the rapid insertion force - Praetor, Assault marines, jet bikes, land speeders.

Not sure how to fit tac marines and heavy weapon squads in though, maybe an infantry attachment to secure objects? Could include a bit of armour that way to.

LOL, he starts crucifying the guardsman to his shield, "I'll be running you off the field in speeds exceeding 40 kph, straps will do us no good! Hold still!."

Nice work, Demon. Glad you're sticking it out with the XIX :)

I wouldn't put it past the Ravens to carry some skulls and enemy helms around. I'm thinking the Ravens' more sinister side - the one that comes with their namesake - has yet to have been demonstrated.

Ragged cloth, claws, black feathers, even cowls. Dig deeper, mate, there's uncharted territory with the Ravens.

A quick search reveals that the expression "uncharted territory" may be almost literal. Found nothing on Google, Deviantart or Coolminiornot that comes close to the mentioned darker imagery. I did a redesign on Shrike, but since I had plausibility in mind, I went with a more conventional tone, though helms and skulls were added.

Still, it's a Legion which has yet to get due attention. Go for it, mate, if it's character you want.

Your right mate. The raven is a creature often associated with death, and Corax has been shown to be worried about a darker side. I also had a thought that the non Terran recruits were former prisoners that revolted. I think it is implied that they were mainly political prisoners and workers who didn't meet there quota but I'm guessing there are still the other sort like thieves, murderous, and the like.

Head over to Wikipedia, and drop in the word "Skin Walker". There are some seriously dark aspects of Native American culture, and could be woven into your company. F'rex, imagine this guy wearing Power Armour....

Is...is his face painted or has the merging begun?

It's a blackened leather mask pulled tight, featureless, except miniscule eyeholes, and two dots of white.

Apparently designed to scare the hell out of M2C.

I was building a bunch of fluff for the Sons of Malice, using dark/evil myths (and a few truths) taken from the Native American, Mexican, and South American tribes. Hell, even my own tribe (Fox) has some seriously black hearted myths. Done quite a bit of research, so I figured, if used right, and a proper "grey-line" was walked, could work for loyalist Raven Guard. Not everything needs to be pretty wings and purity seals, after all.

And here I thought you were Tom Berenger from Platoon!
