I may have missed something out of his list, I forgot to ask him for it for the purposes of this write up! Here is ste! http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle.jpg Here are the armies facingoff against each other! http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle4.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle3.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle2.jpg I held four terminators in reserve, and Ste had some Genestealers waiting in reserve also, waiting to flank! The mission we played was purge the alien, essentially a kill points scenario as we were both very rusty on the rules and spent a fair amount of time double checking things. I was especially bad for it, and Ste had the patience of a saint! I had to set up first, and Ste failed to steal the initiative so I got to go first too. My Daemon Prince Kor Ghalbron took to the skies and took to looking down on the battlefield on the right hand flank, flapping his wings and generally just looking menacing. The rest of my army advanced forward, with the dreads trying to cover ground to get into close combat, and the marines focusing their fire on the gaunts trying to thin the herd! http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle5.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle9.jpg The marines managed to take down half of the Termagaunts, and the combined firepower of the Havoc squad and my Obliterators on my left flank managed to bring down his Tervigon to 2 wounds. Ste's turn one begun with his Hive Tyrant taking to the skies and attacking My Daemon Prince in the air! I didn't know this was possible (due to my lack of knowledge of the rule) but it kicked ass. The Tyrant managed to take two wounds off my Prince, and the idea of them both fighting it out mid air was just too damn cool! (Imagine these guys are flying about and making assault passes at each other in the sky! too damn cool). http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle6.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle10.jpg Ste's Tyrant was especially hard because he had managed to get Iron Hand in the Biomancy powers (something I will be getting for my prince in the future when possible), and generally rocked about the battlefield kicking ass. He also in this turn moved his army forward, his Tervigon failed his psychic check, and also lost a wound due to perils of the warp, the Chaos God's clearly on my side! He didn't really cause much damage to my army, with all the armour saves he asked of my marines being saved during the shooting phase! Having thinned the swarm, Ste's front line looked something like this: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle7.jpg My turn two started with my Daemon Prince landing and making his way towards the Trygon, leaving the Hive tyrant flapping away trying to chase him down. My Terminators decided not to show up from reserve, so my shooting continued as my havocs shot the Tyrant in the sky, causing him to lose two wounds. The marines yet again shot at the advancing gaunts causing a few more casualties and the dreads continued to advance in a storm of bullets, each charging either the Trygon or the Tervigon. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle12.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle11.jpg The dread and the prince managed to kill off the Trygon, but the dread took damage himself, being immobilised with no shooting weapons causing him to swing wildly about him as opponents just strolled past him for the rest of the battle. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle14.jpg Ste's turn two began with with the Tervigon managing to get his psychic powers off, and with the the Genestealers showing up on his right flank. They arrived in cover, just in front of the obliterators. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle15.jpg The mycetic spore failed to make an appearance, so the rest of his army made pot shots where they could, taking out a few marines from both squads, but not enough to cause much concern. Turn three arrived and my Obliterators decided to shoot down some of the genestealers with their plasma cannon morphs, reducing the squad to half strength. The Hive Tyrant flew down and finished off my Daemon prince, and the Dreadnought managed to finish off the Tervigon in the centre of the board. Turn four heralded the arrival of my terminators who tried to face down the Hive Tyrant with their combi meltas but managed to do nothing at all with it, after they successfully deep striked right next to him. The Mycetic spawn also arrived right behind a marine squad in the ruins. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle16.jpg Generally speaking the game was going my way. The Mycetic spore took away three marines from the squad, but the Dreadnoughts had managed to destroy two of his big gribblies, and the rest of the army was gradually reducing his rank and file down to insignificant numbers. I was feeling pretty confident, and ste himself felt a little resigned to his loss, but the game continued in good humour! The final two turns of the battle saw Ste's fortunes turn right round! The Mycetic Spore and the Squad it delivered (have i got that drop pod's thing name right? ) ploughed even more shots into the marine squad, reducing them to just 6 marines. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle17.jpg In retrospect, I should have charged these annoying gribblies, but my inexperience showed, and instead I opted to rapid fire back at them, preventing me from charging. I had also lost some marines from over heating plasma guns, so I really had no excuse not to charge them. The Spore was also close enough to make attacks itself from its lashing tentacles, and one marine was picked up in a vice like grip and tossed about like a rag doll. My dreadnought, buoyed by his success at the destruction of a big gribbly, decided to pulp some of the smaller insects at his feet and charged into the Hormogaunts. He killed off three, and the little buggers couldn't do anything return. However the synapse of the Tyrant in the background kept them in the fight. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle18.jpg The horomgaunts decided to run away from the dread as they were unable to kill him, and the tyrant swooped in and shoved a huge scything talon right through the sarcophagus, ripping the ancient marine out of his living tomb and reducing the rest of the chassis to a steaming pile of acid covered ruin. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s172/tzen_spider/stebattle19.jpg The Obliterators finished off the Genestealers, and the havocs no longer had anything viable to shoot at. The squads of marines were taken out by the remaining gaunts, and the Tyrant charged in and helped out in the very final turn of the game to reduce kill them off. The result left me with just three oblits, 5 havocs and a half ruined dreadnought left on the table. Ste had managed to pull a victory out of the bag at the end of the game. His remaining units, whilst reduced significantly in number, had not been wiped out. In addition to this, he had managed to land in my deployment area, and squeeze some more victory points out of that. He had also killed my leader whilst I had not I was winning the game for so long, but his Tyrants psychic power made him impossible to kill, and allowed him to pick and choose what he kill. Making mincemeat of whatever I had left. However, despite all this, Ste is a real gent, and great fun to play against. If I can find my ultramarines and Grey knights I shall be heading back next week for another match, whilst he commands his own chaos army! Was a really great game! Knight of the Raven
Thanks for posting this. It's always a pleasure to read a battle report with pictures, especially one between two well painted armies.
