So I was considering a Centurion squad...

Recommended Posts

I forgot my html codes, so bare with me non-uber-fancy font writing.

So I'm back from the grave of musical and design production. Thank God I spend some night reading on 40k, so I retain most of my knowledge.

Anyway, I've been thinking to get back into the game (but I moved to SoCal and players are growing scarce after the Bunker closed. D: ). And I heard about the new Centurions coming in. As much it pains me, I decided them over the HH products at Forgeworld, out of gameplay rather than looks.

So what kind of particular advantage or disadvantage would I have with these chubby badboys/armored-Inception?

Rules wise, the dakka centurions look like they are going to be pretty good.

Model wise, the centurion is. well. A massive block of metal hewn out of semimolten lead, and cast in iron with a marine shoehorned in at the cost of dislocated limbs, the ability to walk, and whatever remains of his pride.

A few folks have already suggested simply modeling a small group of devastators on to a Centurion sized base as a Counts As model.  I think I like that idea.  So long as you stack up the base a bit to give it a comparable height to the Centurions.

Dan the Daemon did something exactly like that in his Night Lord thread in the WIP; a suppression team of Alpha Legionnaires, if I remember correctly.

It's a far better option than actually wasting money on that horrible scrap-code abortion.

Ah!

I knew I'd swiped that idea from someone, but I couldn't remember who!laugh.png

Yeah, though, I thought that was the greatest way EVER to counter-act having to use butt-ugly obliterators.

I wonder if a group of raptors modelled up in the air, on the same base, with flamers could replace those hideous Heldrakes...?turned.gif

Wait... the Bunker closed? Wow, that was the only decent GW store I've ever been to.

Yeah, things started to fall apart when their spectacular manager left (we had a huge apoc party in their game room). They closed off the game room a few months ago and cancelled their White Shields program.

What you got is the husk of the Bunker. All they got left is merchandising, the small stool for the paint class, and the typical game table devoted to the Macragge set.

Well, I guess I'll just buy the new dreadnoughts then at FW.

Somebody mentioned the idea of a Kantor Death Star with the assault Centurions too. Not sure what their transport options are though.

Regardless, you'll be left with the ugliest models that have ever seen 40K (which says a lot), that are totally irredeemable, even with heavy conversion.

I understand many people don't like them, but they look ten times better than the Dreadknight due to the marine not looking like he's wearing a diaper. Although the only one I could ever see any real use for in my army is the devastator ones, and I have plenty of awesome models to buy before then.

In all truth, though, looking ten times better than the Dreadknight is not too hard of a deal and it still means they look like dross.

Don't know what part of So-cal you are in (most likely somewhere in northern O.C or Southern L.A county considering you were going to the bunker), but Game empire in San Diego has a decent scene and a gaming area to rival even the best of stores. Per haps their store in Pasadena has a decent one as well.
