Ladies and gents...an old man in an old armour

"Endurance is all we have left. To steel ourselves and let Horus' venomous blade shatter against our righteousness. No more shock. No more mourning. No point in contemplating the future of the Imperium. The only difference between the traitorous lot that's coming for us and the next Ork invasion is that we know them. As far as I am concerned, that is an advantage."

Pramus Kholosk, The Castle, Sergeant of the Munchaust Squad

A Terran-born warrior from before the Emperor reunited with Rogal Dorn, Kholosk survived the Heresy, finally meeting his end at the very beginning of the Great Scouring, when he seemingly went berzerk during the boarding of the Iron Warriors' cruiser "Ferrus Candent". Though a cruel blow for the Legion, many saw the old veteran's reckless behaviour as liberating and natural, Kholosk having gone through the events of the Heresy with a stone-hard calm that was unsettling for all but the fire-and-ice collective mindset of the Imperial Fists.

Pramus Kholosk's most distinctive feature was his choice of Armour, the MKI Terminator Armour, of which he was one of the very few to sport, among Legionnaires. Though incredibly durable and providing immense strength to its wearer, MkI Tactical Dreadnought Armour (actually never having gone past 'Prototype' status) was extremely unwieldy and presented serious visibility issues. This made it almost prohibitive for boarding actions, but Rogal Dorn, appreciating Kholosk's valuing of his relic wargear, created the concept of boarding squads specialized in creating bulkwarks inside enemy ships. Over time, Pramus Kholosk became a legend among those Astartes companies and squads dedicated to void warfare.

I have a pair of drawings before getting back to the Heresy. When we return, though, Blood Angels will be next.

Cheers, everyone.

Well i do believe way back in the whole chapterhouse dispute and the naftka stuff too it was mentioned that gamesworkshop does troll (not the bad way, think fishing) through forums to see ideas, feedback, and root out any leakers.

I believe B and C was mentioned.

Plus we have ADB lurk around here sometimes...

oh, and kol, dont try to hide that you are actually alan bligh. nice try there putting it off on someone else ;)

I, Talos402000 shall break the silence of years and share with my brothers. The Tempus Fugitives have created rules for Saturnine Terminator armor in their latest Horus Heresy Expansion.

www.tempusfugitives.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=8&Itemid=30

It requires me to register, Talos. Maybe later. Pity, though, can you outline the general view they have on the armour?

I've seen one or two instances of GW staff or BL authors (these are more common) frequenting the forums. Sarah Cawkwell, for example, had a great conversation on Warseer about her Silver Skulls novel. ADB does it regularly (not so much now), as mentioned, and there have been others.

I fully understand GW or FW staffers not revealling themselves, though. Internet laws dictate that they'd eventually have to deal with massive F5 Sh*tstorms since all it takes if for a single forum user to be unable to understand how bold and caring (though it can also bring many benefits) it is for a brand to be on perma-contact with its fans.

Aye, but even in more mild forums, like B&C is, there's the snowball effect. Soon even those defending the GW rep would be throwing insults around.

People (legitimately) want things to move fast and be done well for their armies and the overall game. GW has been providing "fast". Unfortunately that awesome thing brings with it the need for even faster releases. We're getting addicted to novelty and it doesn't do any good to customers' heads.

But most of all there's self-entitlement, the sense that one knows the best way to produce and sell Space Marines because they represent the playerbase. Never mind that GW has the numbers and the data about the customers and their behaviours. Never mind that GW's sculptors and artists are professionals and under goddamned tons of pressure (as any worker, of course, though the creative field is especially sensisble), their minis and drawings can't simply not be their best, they suck like the bastard offspring of a whirlpool and crack whore.

Most blatant case (and the one I relate to the most) is of Paul Dainton or Adrian Smith. Soon as Raymond Swanland started drawing the new covers, every cover not made by him (and usually drawn by either Dainton or Smith) is s*itty. And these two were almost unanimously good for a long time. But then comes novelty - by the way, Raymond Swanland is awesome, and it does him no good to throw crap at any other artist over his work.

Sorry for the rant, but you'll se how this connects to topic:

So we could eventually be discussing ideas for new armour or any other 40K-subject with a Rep here. Instead the best we can expect - and it has been working pretty well - is that GW and FW keeping giving their best people the power to take care of the hobby. And, in the meantime, check the forums for valuable opinions here and there. I can't criticize them if they don't do it too often, though.

It might not be the same mark of armour as my characters', if they even have anything in mind for the designation "Saturnine". Honestly, I think a Pre-Heresy Grey Knight Terminator-like armour would be very cool as well.

Great big thanks, anyway =)

Honestly, if they released Saturnine and it DIDN'T look like Greyall's version, I'd be disappointed.

^this

if it isnt greyalls version then i will promptly knee jerk and grab my pitchfork and my newly christened torch (ive moved up in the ranks of the mob, you see)

I like the whole turtle look where the helmet is inside the armor. Looks boss

There was something cool in star wars that i read

note: prepare for maximum nerdage

that Jango/Boba fett's helmet had that ring around it that allowed for views 360 degrees.

I wouldn't put that idea past it, im sure there's something that allows visibility of sorts

So, what you two are saying is that no artist out there in the big wide world will ever make a better version of the Saturnine Armour than Greyall?

Sure, Greyall makes some decent images and has come a long way in the last two years or so, it's interesting to see the develompment unfold. He has an interesting, detailed, style that is currently limited to Black & White and can make some nice dynamic poses as well. But to raise him to a level above John Blanche, Jes Godwin and a whole cadre of other miniature makers and artists is quite a bit too much in my eyes...

You are comparing a modern drawing to this:

...this thing has quite a few years on it's back...

I'm saying that his vision of what Saturnine should be is the best I've seen, yes. I don't know what to tell you, but for everyone one Rembrandt known there are 1000 Van Goghs that never see success. I'm not saying Greyall is a Rembrandt or Van Gogh, but I think his vision of Saturnine is faithful to the current vision of Crusade Era arms and armor that FW has been redesigning.
