Gentlemanloser
I'm going to try to make a little list, mostly for my own benefit, of how the Imperial units break down into cost per wound for 2+ Save Minis. Feel free to add stuff I miss! (Bangles and Dangles to come later) Njal Stormcaller: 122.5 Justicar Thawn: 115 Brotherhood Champion: 100 Arjac Rockfist: 94 Logan Grimnar: 91.67 GK Techmarine: 90 Castellan Crowe: 75 Librarian: 75 Lord Kaldor Draigo: 68.75 Brother-Captain Stern: 66.67 Rune Priest in AA/TDA: 60 Wolf Priest in AA/TDA: 60 GK Grand Master: 58.33 WG Battle Leader in TDA: 55 Grand Master Mordrak: 50 GK Brother-Captain: 50 Inquisitor Karamazov: 50 Iron Priest: 50 Wolf Lord in TDA: 46.67 WG Battle Leader in AA: 45 GK Terminator: 40 Wolf Lord in AA: 40 Inquisitor Coteaz: 33.33 Wolf Guard in TDA: 33 Nemesis Dreadknight: 32.5 Centurion: 30 Paladin: 27.5 Space Marine Honourguard: 25 Lone Wolf in TDA: 22.5 OM Inquisitor in TDA: 21.67 Nice to see our own OM Inquisitor topping the list so far! Some of our 1W minis really need that second wound... And so far, as much maligned as the 'Draigowing' is, Paladin seem the best choice for the basis of a 2+ save list. Slightly edged out by the new Honour Guard, but while they bring more attacks, suffer from the inability to score, and being limited to a maximum of 5 units, if you take Cagar *and* ally yourself to another Space Marine chapter. Reclusiarch Darius
Paladins get nuked by Riptides though. Price breakdowns are cool, but the reason they have different costs is due to wargear differences. That 7pts between the WG Termie and our GK Termie is free halberd/hammer swap, plus 'Hammerhand' and force weapon built in, plus 'Aegis', plus frags+psyk-out. I'd say if anything, our Terminators offer the best bang for their buck. They're no more pricey than any other Terminator unit, they have flexible wargear options, decent psychic defence, and frags are so clutch on Terminators. Valerian
In addition to what RD just said, IMHO this ordered list doesn't account for any other differences in all those units; those points per wound are paying for a whole lot of other features than just wounds. Also, Instant Death plays havoc with the value of ordering them in this way; PPW has no meaning when all of the wounds can be swept away at once, with a blast of Meltagun or the strike of a Power Fist. That said, it is still neat to see. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279142-2-armour-saves-points-per-wound/#findComment-3440010 Share on other sites

Gentlemanloser
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a be all and end all. ID will still ID you, armies have thier own special rules, etc. Just wanted a comparison of PPW. I will add the other marines, and I'm even contemplating knocking up a little spreadsheet to include more units, comparing PPW with durability from Armour Saves (Toughness would be far in the future! lol!). Something general (not taking into account distribution, which would involve listing every weapon in the game!) like; There are 7 AP values for weapons. TDA gets it's 2+ save for 5/7 of those. PA gets it's 3+ Save for 4/7, etc. Work out a very basic overall durability for points cost. If I ever get the time! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279142-2-armour-saves-points-per-wound/#findComment-3440209 Share on other sites
