Coverfire
So I had my first game the other night and although I was winning on turn 5, I ended up losing after turn 6 after a final push from my opponents Space Marines/Imperial Guard. But the lament that I wish to share now is for the loss of a Wolf Guard Pack Leader who moved to engage a unit of Imperial Guard on my last turn (the unit would be able to move to contest an objective being held by 3 Grey Hunters). Armed with an Assault Cannon we dropped a few of the Guard but they rallied against the rending shots and then tried to charge to unit. Seeing a lone Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour push through the trees the Guard had only enough time to raise their lasguns and fire at the oncoming giant. One of the Guard members got lucky and inflicted a wound that not even the ancient and batted tactical dreadnought armour could prevent and the pack leader succumbed to the red. The Guard were inspired and took the fight to the Grey Hunters forcing them off the objective and allowing them to take the high ground and seize victory that day. Jarl Deathwolf
The dice are simply trying to balance the odds. The Space Wolves are bad enough dudes that if we didn't have streaks of bad luck, the galaxy would be firmly under the control of Fenris. Valerian
Was the Wolf Guard Pack Leader assigned to the Grey Hunter pack holding the Objective? Just want to make sure that you know that WGPLs cannot split off from their unit to go attack another unit on their own; they're joined to them for the whole battle and can't split off like an Independent Character can. Once assigned before deployment, Pack Leaders act just like Sergeants from then on. I will take bad my lament as today the exact thing happened to my opponent. The dice are simply trying to balance the odds. Game 1 verses Dark Eldar with Eldar Allies Primary Mission: Emperor's Will Secondary Mission: Crusade Result: Drew first blood, but lost Warlord (and game) in the final turn of the game. Opponent got Line Breaker, and Slay the Warlord. We drew with Objectives and the final kill count was 9-5 in favour of the Eldar before my opponents final turn it had been 5-2 in favour of Space Wolves. Memorable moment: Logan died from falling out of building in attempts to draw my opponent out of position. Game 2 Verses Space Wolves with Blood Angels Allies Primary Mission: Relic Secondary Mission: Crusade Army: 5 Drops pods with Thunderwolf Cav/Lord Result: Left the attempt on the relic too late, and bad rolls and placement put me out of contention at the last turn, got pushed off two objectives missing out on linebreaker and the secondary mission making me lose the game on the final turn. Memorable moment: Logan killed his Thunderwolf Lord in challenge. Game 3 Verses Raven Guard Primary Mission: Purge the Alien Secondary Mission: Big Guns never tire Army: 5 Drop pods with Land Raider/ 5 Terminators Result: Purge the Alien to Space Wolves (7 - 3), Objectives Space Wolves (3-2), Space Wolves Drew First Blood, Slew the Warlord and Line Breaker. Space Wolves win on final turn of the game. - I think going second might give a lot of Memorable moments: Arjac Rockfist Blew up a Land Raider in Close Combat and a pack of Long Fangs survived a drop pod assault (Forgeworld rules) until support came from Grey Hunters who locked it in combat for the rest of the game.
