Salamanders start of something new

Hey everyone,

I had started a crimson fists army not so long ago but upon seeing the new sternguard painted as salamanders I was hooked. I havent painted a model for over a year so im not very steady or good as i use to be.

So here is my first test mini. I was thinking the armor might need a green wash to tone down the extreme edge highlight but i leave it to the community to help me out.

Ps : salamander painting guide in the new white dwarf isn't the easiest recipe at all!!!

Thank you in advance for looking and any help

I've just been reading that article myself. Your Sallie looks good, but I dare say that a wash won't hurt, if you feel it's too bright smile.png

Great start fella, what I find is a thinner final highlight is actually better than a broad deep highlighted line (if that makes sense)

But still....can't believe that you ditched your crimson fists brothers :-P

Got a little bit further now. I will have a look in daylight at the armor and make some decisions then.

Quick question. What's on the right pauldron of salamanders? I have seen some people do fire but a lot don't...

Thanks for any help

Hey man, just a bit of help, not bad criticism.

For your transfer, you might want to paint some gloss coat onto your shoulderpad before applying the transfer. After the transfer has been applied, put a coat of gloss coat over the top, then put another one once that one has dried. they will end up looking more like they are painted on rather than stickers. A matte finish at the end will make sure that your shoulder pad isn't shiny.

Aside from that the color is good (looks like my old sallies... now they are being repainted to a paler green). They would benefit from a green wash to tone down the highlights a bit.

Took photo in daylight and the highlight doesn't look so stark as it did in my bathrooms light. But I will try and tone it down on the next one.

Thank for the tips on the transfer. Ended up coming off anyway as I realized one edge was sticking up and I couldn't get it flat.

Here is where he stands at the moment

Moving on steadily with painting. Lighting isn't the best for photos though...

I think I will wait till my hand is a bit steadier before I try line highlighting again
