*Furyou Miko
Hi, So I'll be attending an anime convention at the weekend and finally got a chance to do some work on modifying my Nerf guns for one of the events that's happening. The plan is to take a Nightfire and alter it to appear similar to an Inferno Pistol. I'm looking for modding suggestions. At the moment, here are the pieces I have, although I obviously have a huge bits box to play with, heh; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/KaguraHakubi/IK%20and%2040K/My%20Projects/nightfinder_zpsc21ff473.jpg I've taken the soldering iron stand apart to make the barrel extension, although I need to figure out a way to attach it so I can 'crack' it open to actually load the gun (since it's a muzzle-loading nerf gun). RolandTHTG
What about just making sure you have some sort of ram-rod, that way you can do the extension and still have the gun be loadable. WarriorFish
I was expecting a modelling post, but got a different kind of modelling than I expected The gun looks like a very good start and it seems like you have most of what you need to make it look like an inferno pistol already. Will you be painting it as well? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279307-building-an-inferno-pistol/#findComment-3443653 Share on other sites
Dread
That is gonna be so cool . Post pics asap of it and the con. Enjoy yourself. As for moding it, can you take the blue nerf button off? Maybe cut the yellow thingys off the bottom? As for the promethium tanks, I suggest the rounder end of the plastic Easter eggs and a paper towel roll cut to size. Everything else you have under control. I'm not familiar with the actual nerf gun so can't really suggest how to attach the barrel. Actually, I kinda jumped the gun and already started - the grip is supposed to be grey. ^^; Dread, on 02 Sept 2013 - 09:58, said: That is gonna be so cool:sweat: . Post pics asap of it and the con. I'm not familiar with the actual nerf gun so can't really suggest how to attach the barrel. The yellow thingies hold a couple of extra darts, so they can come off. I'll need a hacksaw though, lol. I've separated the soldering stand into 3 parts - the black base, the outer spring and the metal pipe. The pipe's going to make the barrel, while the base is going on one of the NERF roundels (the gun is vertically symmetrical apart from the calibrator for the target light). The other one is going to be covered by plastic, but I'm not sure what design to use at the moment. Probably something more angular. Not sure what you mean by plastic easter eggs. ^^; You mean the inside bits of kinder eggs? That's kinda what the gas canisters are for, lol. Dread
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll62/DeathbyDread/hinged-eggs1_zps57ee3096.jpg It's these. One end is pretty rounded and about 2" diameter. I was just thinking size wise these would be more close to actual. The tubes you have will look good and less work. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Sorry thought the little smiley face was doing a thumbs up, haha not sweating. *Furyou Miko
lol... well. I haven't figured out how to attach them yet. Thinking maybe cable ties, actually. I don't think any glue I have will hold them in place and the other alternative is drilling. Thinking maybe cable ties, actually. I don't think any glue I have will hold them in place and the other alternative is drilling. Have you tried hot glue? put a bunch on, shove the things in place, then trim away any leakage after the glue dries? *Furyou Miko
Don't have a glue gun. ^^; Can't get one until after the con, either, so that might work but it's not something I can acquire. Rather than cable ties, I've been suggested leather thongs. Looking at the model, the melta canister is held on by metal bands in either case. Eddie Orlock
Aw man, you just made me sad that we can't get kinder eggs in the US Really? Why not? If you'll excuse me, I go back to deciding between a Coffee Crisp or Smarties as part of a complete lunch. Have you considered cyanoacrylate? It really is amasing just what it will bond to. Eddie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinder_Surprise#Prohibition_on_sale_or_import_into_the_United_States Back on topic, my only worry with the ties/thngs would be making them substantial enough to hold the 'tanks' on without moving. Plus the ties/thongs still have to be secured to the model themselves, though you seem to have an Idea for doing so. *Furyou Miko
I'm a sailor, securing bits of string to things is kinda what I do, lol. I've drilled some holes in the side, I'll just put the thongs through and tie them off on the inside. *Furyou Miko
Dinghy initially, recreationally. I then moved onto yachts, eventually gaining a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore from the RYA and going into deliveries, where I became a first mate before leaving the industry to help my partner get through university. Dread
Looking good so far. Those canisters are perfect. Any ideas on attaching the barrel yet? Not sure of the diameter of the stand as opposed to the gun itself but if you can round out the hole where you can slide it in just a bit, then super glue should work or some kinda epoxy. *Furyou Miko
Actually, I got lucky. The muzzle is a separate piece, if I take it out then the stand slips in fairly snugly to the gap between the barrel and the casing since its diameter is slightly larger. Since the stand isn't a cylinder, but a bent sheet, it's got some give in it and is quite springy. A classier answer than the question deserved. I never progressed much further than the dinghy on the local reservoir. Though I placed in a few rookie events in the local club, that only ever made me a medium fish in a very, very, small pond. If it's a close fit, you might be able to take advantage of the elasticity of the material with some form of quick release tension strap to go from secure interference to slip on. *Furyou Miko
I was thinking along those lines. Might even just take the barrel extention off for playing lol. Keep the mods as primarily cosmetic. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279307-building-an-inferno-pistol/#findComment-3446679 Share on other sites
