Choosing a Legion

Recommended Posts

So I'm sure you people see this a lot but I decided to ask for some help on picking a legion. Now to bring a short introduction to myself (or what is relevant in characteristics):

I tend to be cool headed, especially when in combat situations when I was back in the military and I have a high tendency to be unrelenting and unmerciful, I am also slow to anger. Now to the essential stuff; I love infantry warfare, heavy armour and most of all if possible flexibility in warfare against all odds but if not then I would improvise to the situation.

Here are the legions I summed up to choose from:

- Iron Hands

- Iron Warriors

- Emperor's Children

- Vlka Fenryka "Wolves of Fenris"

- Salamanders

If there is anything more you guys would like to know then let me know as I am asking for your guys' opinion on my situation, so cheers for helping me!

Sounds like you might be better suited to one of the Iron Twins.

So that depends on what you want to do with your army. If it is Heresy era, do you want to play Loyalists or Traitors? Do you want a heavily bionic force, or a lot of hazard stripes? Black or grey?

do not listen to the above. Salamanders are the best OBVIOUS choice!tongue.png

we are strong in battle we protect the Emperors people, and we have sweet eyes!

on a more serious note, I am voting Sallies, simply because there are very under represented. and have a Penchant for GORGEOUS wargear.

green is also a pleasant color to paint and I wouldn't mind a "Fire Brothers"

@Cormac Airt  Since this will be a pre heresy army I really don't mind what colour the legion is (except white for the most part as I hate painting that colour) and as long as the legion is a good fight and is durable then I can work with it.

@furioso-prime  I do love the Salamanders as they fight to protect the weak and are able to customize their own armour but the tendency that they mostly stand to defend and move to finish the objective at all cost is what  really bothers me, they are seen as a bit "nice" which is ok but doesn't get things done

So I have read up on all legions but indecision is what always gets me in the end, any more people who want to add an input?

I'd perhaps suggest waiting for a month, Gamesday is around the corner and the next book will be out which will contain both Iron Hands and Salamanders, they may help. It also depends on how you like to paint. I can't paint black armour, it's very boring for me and requires a great deal of highlighting.

if you want a more proactive army the Wolves possibly.

I am doing sallies, and I am a very aggressive player(I blame my Black templar days!) my sallies are going to be a grouping of the Legionaires to aggressive for the other chapters. lot's of purge by fire action.

@WoT  Well I would like to get most of my forces ready now as there is a tournament coming up in a few months which is why I am desperate a bit, but I can paint almost any colour except for white (which I am horrible at painting) but other then that I am good

@furioso-prime  Well I will not count the Salamanders out just yet as they are a good looking army and I do love close combat/ fire fights.

@Cormac Airt  I do agree Iron Hands do sound very close to my description and I must say I do love their warfare, the only thing that bothers me a bit is the bionics and that is what I really question but I am not so sure if they had bionics in large quantities amongst the battle brothers as they have post heresy

@Cormac Airt  Well Iron hands aren't completely off my list as I still love them even with bionics, the only reason I asked is because of the conversions I would probably have to make

Now to narrow it down a bit here is the top picks: Iron Hands, Iron Warriors, Space Wolves and Salamanders

Well, the Salamanders just weren't fans of collateral damage. It isn't that they took a backseat, but where the Ultramarines would look at something and go "Necessary losses", the Salamanders would go "There is no such thing as necessary losses".

What this translates to is that as long as there human lives in the battle zone, the Salamanders will try to save those lives. But once those lives are out of danger, the fires of hell will herald their coming.

In Vulkan Lives, the Salamanders deliver a beatdown to the Death Guard and World Eaters. It took a high explosive artillery shell landing on their Primarch and destroying their frontline to take them out of the fight. They fight as an anvil and a hammer. May not be the swiftest thing in the 'verse, but it will break whatever it hits.

Iron Warriors, trench fighting, artillery, and armoured regiments. They fill two extremes; up close and personal or enough hot lead and precious metals to melt even a Titan to slag.

Iron Hands, I'm not sure about them but everything I've heard points to Heavy Infantry.

Emperor's Children are perfectionists. They can adapt to any role and do it well. However, this means they lack a specialty.

Space Wolves are highly aggressive, close combat monsters. Think of them like a missile. You point and what it hits, it destroys.

All of these Legions can be good in close combat and can be highly adaptable. Unlike their 40K counterparts, the Legions didn't focus on a specific style of combat. Rather, they had signature tactics.

Personally, I'd suggest shooting for Salamanders.

why we don't want you to choose the salamanders;

1- they are green, green=poo

2- they aren't iron warriors

3- Furioso prime needs to learn that he was massacred by Angron so stop trying to draw reinforcements.

and finally

4-

see the base its a dead salamander.... salamanders = dead

You know what, you should go with the Iron Hands. They're the true cold, methodical Legion that doesn't let emotions get in the way of their mission, which they accomplish with their infantry and armour, in unrelenting waves that know no mercy.

Not for them the misplaced sympathies of the Salamander. The Iron Hands know that only the strong can survive. Allowing the weak to live serves no purpose but to endanger the whole.

Not for them the pitiful bitterness of the Iron warriors. They call themselves iron, but theirs is brittle. The Iron Hands are iron that is well forged, melded hot onto the rage of their humanity.

Not for them the self-centered arrogance of the Emperor's Children. Their perfection is a myth the Iron Hands see no need to indulge in.

Not for them the savagery and ferocity of the Space Wolves. Their backward ways are nothing compared to the implacability of the machine.

You already know what your decision will be. You may have doubted it, but you need not anymore. You are iron and you are fury. None can stand before you and live.

To the glory of the Tenth.

Oh, and you'll be getting some cool rules and a Primarch before the end of the year. So bonus.

For Ferrus Manus!

@Cormac Airt Brother...that speech actually almost brought me to tears (which is not an insult it just means I don't have any tear ducts to do so sweat.gif ) and you also almost and I mean 50.9% convinced me that I want the Iron hands though since I want the vote to go through its course I am waiting to see the results

Iron Hands and Iron Warriors are at a tie right now at 7 on 7, so which of these two will be the legion to go in glory?

have you considered Sons of Horus, Ultramarines or Dark Angels? Particularly the latter two.

Sons of Horus are renowned for being the 'tip of the spear' and going for their throat.

Ultra's were known as empire builders but also, as in 40k, superb tacticians and flexibility.

Likewise, the Dark Angels during the Heresy have a reputation for honour, loyalty, dedication, ruthlessness, cool headed tactics (bar one head-bashing incident...) and being great at winning victories in any situation.

As for your original list, I suggest Iron Hands if you want to be loyalist or Iron Warriors if you prefer the traitor route. There is a similar ethos in terms of using armour, infantry and being very calculating and cold.

That's it, I'm coming to Istvaan!

the 1st Legion all the way!

1) We are knightly badasses from a deathworld inhabited by warpspawn abominations

2) We are ruthless tacticians who use multiple forms of warfare to defeat opponents

3) Our armor is black with steel trimmings with winged helms and blood red winged swords

4) Our Primarch is a mixture of He-Man, The Highlander, and motha-censored.gif King Arthur

5) And most importantly The Lion made Leman Russ his baby-backed censored.gif

PS: We are now led by Cypher and our Lord and Savior is Luther
