Choosing a Legion

Recommended Posts

Well, since the green-bellied, scaly Sallies are out, I vote Night Lords. B)

No seriously, I vote Night Lords.

Fine. Stop twisting my arm. I'll vote Night Lords.

Okay! If it'll stop the nagging, I'll vote Iron Hands. There, happy now? I did it. Now leave me in peace, solitude and silence.

Glory to the IV Legion, and I'll tell you why:

So I'm sure you people see this a lot but I decided to ask for some help on picking a legion. Now to bring a short introduction to myself (or what is relevant in characteristics):

I tend to be cool headed, especially when in combat situations when I was back in the military and I have a high tendency to be unrelenting and unmerciful, I am also slow to anger. Now to the essential stuff; I love infantry warfare, heavy armour and most of all if possible flexibility in warfare against all odds but if not then I would improvise to the situation.

Sounds to me like you're already an Iron Warrior. Need more convincing?

At the height of the Great Crusade, there was no Astartes Legion more stolid and obedient than the Iron Warriors. Every task assigned them, they accomplished without question or complaint, as any good soldier would.

When enemy fortifications proved too strong or costly for another Legion to break, who was brought in to see victory through? The IV Legion.

When other, more vainglorious and prideful Primarchs and their Legions scurried from world to world, reaching to be the first for a celebrated victory to lord over their brothers, who remained behind to ensure compliance and carry out the Emperor's dream of a unified Imperium of Man? The IV Legion.

Who fought longer and harder through every miserable task tossed at their feet, enduring decades of grinding trench combat without
respite or even the luxury of restoring their lost numbers? The IV Legion.

When their home planet disobeyed the laws of the Emperor, who showed such unswerving loyalty that they immediately withdrew from the Crusade to mercilessly remove such a stain from their honor? The IV Legion.

Iron within, iron without.

The IV Legion endures, above all.

But the IV Legion is known for being perpetually bitter. Even perturbed, you might say. cool.png

Not exactly slow to anger since they're in a constant state of aggression. Granted, calm and calculating aggression, but aggression nonetheless.

Wow, that was a really bad pun. :P

Calm and calculating, you say? How about scientists of warfare?

Nah, don't go the Iron Warriors route. Their iron is rusted. They had proven their talents in specific realms of war, only to complain and complain about their use in that regard.

At the height of the Great Crusade, their usefulness to the Imperium could be denied by no one. Too often the Legions were utilized beyond what they hoped to be used for. Look at the Thousand Sons, the Salamanders, the Angels of Blood. Yet the Iron Warriors were bitterest of all. Did the Ultramarines complain when they were tasked to be warriors second, statesmen first, contrary to their natures? No, they did not. They persevered and excelled. Did the Imperial Fists complain when they were withdrawn wholesale from the Crusade and reduced to carpenters and masons, architects? No, they relished in the honor. The words of the Iron Warriors are as ironic as they themselves. Iron Within, Iron Without. If they are iron, it has long become corroded. They stopped being warriors when the demands of war proved too much to bear, and so they turned traitor. They even bicker and struggle among themselves, like children playing in their fathers' uniforms.

The Iron Hands never wavered, as the Iron Warriors did and do. They are strong, unbreakable. The Iron Hands are bonded in adamantium. The Iron Warriors slate.

You dare compare the VII Legion to the IV?

Braggarts and layabout failures, hiding behind the skirts of their Primarch! Why should they complain to be given their greatest desire of proclaiming ultimate glory and "duty" by sitting on perfumed cushions in the Imperial Palace? And for all of Rogal Dorn's jealous and hateful words directed at Perturabo, he was defeated time and again by the very brother he belittled. There is nothing that Rogal Dorn or his sons could build that the IV Legion could not tear down.

So like the little brother who fails, to see disdain and contempt in the older brother's eyes and yet refuse to accept his own blame. Yes, I dare to compare the VII and the IV. Because the Seventh were everything the Fourth could have been, had they not held themselves back with their own pettiness. You can try to belittle the Seventh, but it won't make the Fourth any better. It only lowers standards the Iron Warriors failed to reach. Even when the Iron Warriors were granted the greater honor, of remaining to fight in the Great Crusade, they still found cause to pursue their unwholesome jealousies.

I'll throw something in from a little left field and give my vote to the XIV Legion aka The Death Guard. You have:

Uncompromising relentlessness

Massed ranks of infantry laying down torrents of fire

Crazy biological weapons for when the ends truly justify the means

Epic terminator models in the form of the Death Shroud, plus the promise of new goodies when Massacre drops.

For back up votes I'd say;

The Vlka Fenryka  - gray is nice to paint plus with the pack kits the conversions are simplicity itself

The Dark Angels - noble and unstoppable once roused

Night Lords - seriously how can you not want to play Night Lords....

Well having come back to the thread I noticed that there were many reasons why I should take Dark Angels/ Night Lords/ Iron Warriors. The list so far I have on the matter is:

Space Wolves = 4

Iron Warriors   = 8

Salamanders  =  2

Iron Hands      = 10

Dark Angels    =  3

Death Guard   = 4

So the Iron Hands are in the majority and are winning, now here is the last session/ round of votes amongst them and whoever gets the majority  is the winner and will be legion that will be made in full 5000pts (possibly more). BEGIN!!!

I'd say Dark Angels. Sure it'll be a while until you have a Primarch model, but they're knights, if you're into that. Knights are awesome. Also, they are slow to anger and relentless when roused. They rely on infantry more than tanks, as well, and you'll get to make/have some great special elite units, for sure.

Iron Hands are also cool in your case, though they rely more on warmachines. But that's a matter of force organization.

Depends on what you want more:

Iron Hands if you want all the pre-heresy rules for your legion, as Massacre will be available to order in the next 6-8 weeks.

Iron Warriors if you want to be truly bad-ass ;) Plus their rules are rumoured to be out within 6 months of massacre being released

Proof of their badassery if proof were needed:

That's a vote for the fourth btw ;)

All the way where? Olympia? Oh wait. That's right, you couldn't even hold your own Home world. Your one job in the Crusade, to garrison and hold the important worlds of the Imperium, and you couldn't even hold Olympia.

Strong words coming from the Legion who lost their Primarch because they were believed to be strong enough to stand with Horus, but they turned out to be weak and suffered for it.

And Kol, that was the worst joke. Ever.... Of all time.
