My New Chapter

Hi,

Hi, I’m a returning gamer after a 15 year hiatus and I’ve
gone straight in for a new space marine army. My knowledge of what’s been going
on in the imperium recently is ok I guess and I had a go at painting a minature
from my new DIY Chapter, yet to be named. Anyway here he is!

I have gone for a Deathworld Forest with Earthshade
lowlights, I tried using a lighter Elysian green to highlight, but had to go
over it do to the green being too light. – I will probably further highlight
Deathworld mixed with white.

I’m happy with the base colour but I’m worried that the
colour scheme is pretty boring, I don’t have a chapter name or symbol yet but
I’m thinking of a stag as an emblem – and a foresty theme or fuedal for this
chapter.

I have found quite a nice symbol that is easily replicated, I’l
get that painted on asap, perhaps antlers as a symbol with the stag head used
only on sergeants / commanders etc? And then maybe more heraldic as I get
better at painting.

Another thing I’m thinking of is to lose the blue bolter and
use brown instead, but it might result in the most boring looking miniature of
all time.

I’m thinking Raven Guard / Raptors in terms of look and
attitude. Although I have been really getting into the Iron Snakes too!

Anyway thoughts???

Welcome back to the hobby!

Can see the pic, looks like a nice green, certainly very Raptor-ish. For a forest/feudal theme maybe could do with some more colour/details. If you're going that way, maybe celtic-styled knots and patterns could work with the stag/antler stuff and add some bling? Maybe in a warm metallic such as bronze?

i have found a few a nice images that would look great as a chapter symbol.

I also came across this dude, who is quite inspiring, might
stick a bit more bone / white on my marines, perhaps the shoulder pads?

might be a while before i'm converting, but might be good to have a look at what bits are avialable to make my marines unique.

Deer hunter style marines suit raven guard successors well, quick strike and all of that.

Thinking of calling them Sons of Cervus, which is latin for Stag. Cervus would be the homeworld.

I like the drab look of these guys - too many banana yellow and flame red Chapters out there already. "Look over here! Shoot me!!"

Depending on how far you want to carry the hunting theme, perhaps individual Marines/squads compete with one another to achieve the most impressive kills - thinking that it could operate like the Black Templars a bit, with little mini-crusades going out and hunting the enemies of the Emperor.

Looks like a good start so far.

That model is awesome.

If you're looking for a way to bring up some contrast, might I recommend:

*Puts on Heraldry Dept. Hat*

EDIT:

Removed unrequired pic.

Green shoulders don't break the 'theme' of the colour too much, but help break up the all-brown effect.happy.png

This is just a random idea, feel free to use it or discard it as you see fit.biggrin.png

EDIT:

The badge on that yellow flag is pretty awesome, but it would be a task and a half to paint it!

How about Kinights Incarnate, UM sucessor (despite being generic, and making up 2/3rds of the chapters, barely anyone's DIY has this background) whose Original Chapter Master (and thus all successors) had the name Cervus (Latin for Stag IIRC), hence the logo.

Some great Feedback here.

I love the prize hunters style theme, maybe should re-think the backround a bit, makes more sense to be decended from Templars than Ravens / Scars now i think.

i might change the shoulder pads to Yellow / amber, inspried by the flag n crown. And use whites and browns to keep it earthy, i kind of got the idea from a pair of my trainers (haha)

whilst looking for the trainers i found that there are already some for ultramarines!

But before i get banned for appearing to be selling shoes i'd thanks for all the input. I think my wife is going away this weekend so i'l have some time to finish this chap and i'l post him up again up to date.

Also, can anyone direct me to where i can put my fluff up?

Right here in the Liber Astartes.biggrin.png

Just edit your first post and put in as much or as little as you'd like.

Also, just in case this helps you decide what to do with the colours:

EDIT:

Removed un-needed pic. Saving server space and all that!

Now I like that one Ace tongue.png

But I'd make the eyes neon green, I just think it looks better and goes with the nightvision aspect.

Hmm, that or red, maybe. Always a good 'stand-out' colour for lenses.

I'll leave it for the OP to decide on the eye colour, though. I mean, it's going to be his models after all!laugh.png

i'm a fan of the blue eyes, they were originally yellow, but for some reason looked terrible.

spacemarine

I've popped what i reckon will be the chapter symbol on there, at least for now.

going for the dull gold / bronze, anyone know the best paint for this? Silver doesn't cut it for green marines.

The Chapter badge on the left knee is an optional extra, but thought it may look good as the company colour variation.

I also popped a design on the right knee to depict maybe the company or the campaign - since i have next to no fluff so far its hard to tell.

The previous design by Ace Debonair was nice, but  i think it might make a good design for the first company? with amber rather than the bright yellow!

Fluff wise i do like the Iron Snakes organisation, and was thinking that it could be a way of playing around with slightly different colour schemes without going completely mad. Imagine just 100 Squads labelled 00-99 of various sizes.

I had that idea until i tried writing 28 on the left knee pad of that minature, so that idea might not survive.

I'm not a massive fan of Reserve companys, ideally i'd like to avoid having them in my chapter. maybe opt for a clan or 'house' based company organisation.

Now that is one nifty looking marine.biggrin.png

... Although I genuinely thought the model you had was brown, not green - maybe my Heraldry Goggles need recalibrating again!wacko.png

Feel free to use or modify the scheme I threw at you as you see fit - white shoulder trim / kneepads for 1st company would look pretty cool.

That said, if you're after clan-style organisation, I suppose it'd be have to be the main Clan rather than 1st Company.happy.png

Digging the Chapter symbol - should be pretty easy to replicate, which is important laugh.png

If you're going with blue eyes, I'd suggest making them as bright as you're comfortable with, because they could get lost with that new green. Orange lenses could be pretty cool...

If you're looking to do squad numbers, the Marine's right shoulder could give you more space to work with

Gonna stick with blue eyes, but will probably brighten them up a bit,

even if i have a clan based company structure i think i'l still use a lot of bone / white on my veterans.

The Colour of the marines are Deathworld Forest - it's almost brown, i'm not changing the green, just didnt get it quite right with the SM Painter!

Good shout on numbers on Marines right shoulder! It's a bit of a shame the plastic minis come with arrows on the shoulder, i'd much prefer the vertical stripe!, might get my knives / file out on that.

Where do i get the nice headers (homeworld / backround etc?)

Yeah, those Marines from the AoBR kit have those unfortunate arrows - good conversion practice though! Glad the green is staying the same.

The headers are done with some bulletin board code - not sure if it still works the same with the upgrade (my IA article went a little wonky afterwards). There's a link to it in the DIY guide under "Formats"

So here's a more thought out plan for my marines. Not yet 100% in terms of chapter organisation clan style vs codex style but i reckon i'm nearly there.

In fact upon looking back, my initial idea here gallery_74094_8826_133547.jpg

with the yellow chapter symbol reflecting the second company might do the trick.

1. I'm definitely going for the two tone green, going one darker for the legs / shoulders / power fists etc.

2. Going to be tight with the gold, and used a beaten, coppery style.

3. leave the white for the veterans

4. invert colours for sergeant, not going for the codex red.

5. Make devastators mainly duckies.

6. Not embellish the chapter with robes / decoration - they are a modest straightforward to the point style chapter.

These are all ideas, i await your comments!!!!

Thanks,

I've decided i'm sticking to the codex for the organisation, with the Left knee pad depicting the company colour, a few deviations on colour of company through

1st = White

2nd = Amber

3rd = Red

4th = Green

5th = Black

6th = Orange

7th = Maroon (i cant justify the colour purple!)

8th = Grey

9th = Blue

10th = N/A

Here we go, a marine! (i have hardly any time and considering i'm still fiddling with the colour scheme is suppose the rest will come quicker!)

He looks quite shiny and clean now, i think i'm gonna rough him up a bit, does anyone know if toothbrush flicking is a good idea, or it that too much?

Also my first go at basing for quite some time, i need i want MUD, and bleak desolate wasteland.
