Could the new librarian be used as a Space wolf?

The beard on the model got your attention too, didn't it, Token? laugh.png

In my opinion, I hate seeing wolves with tabards or robes. My advice, if you got greenstuff skills, change any cloth to look like fur and you''re set.

Best way to do this is dent and score the cloth on the reverse side so it looks torn, and sculpt or mold-stamp fur on the other end. Paint the inside cloth like leather, so it looks like the hide behind the furry part of the pelt.

And get rid of that silly backpack and give em the Wolf's Head special backpack, something suitable for a high-ranking alpha of Fenris!

Cheers!

I don't agree with psychic hoods on rune priests as that is specidically a tool of the Librarius.

I disagree on three counts:

Senile old long fangs... *sigh* ph34r.png

I swear that old rune priest in terminator armour is one of the most awesome space wolf models made, along with the beakie grey hunter .
I personally love the model apart from it's price and the fat baby merlin.

You could have made it 4 if you'd included the current rune priest model (small psychic hood).

However two of those models are ooooold, and I'm not sure if the 2nd ed codex allowed hoods to be taken. I know the 3rd just said that runic weapons counted as hoods and its only this codex which fully differentiates them by giving them different abilities.

At the end of the day though its simply a way of denoting them as psykers for the design team so I've got no issue with it. Heck, I even added one on my own rune priest conversion.

As for the model, I personally wouldn't use it. To get it looking how I'd want would be too much work to make it worthwhile. But that's just me, if you like it then knock yourself. Just make sure you post pictures when you're done.

You disagree on a modeling basis, but psychic hoods have never been represented for Wolves in the rules or fluff for them. As far as I can recall, it has always been the runic staff that has denied and has always done so much better then a hood.

Space Wolves had Psychic Hoods back in 2e, which is why those two old models (original Njal and generic Rune Priest in TDA) have them.  Not sure why they gave one to new Njal, other than it still looks pretty cool on him, despite the fact that he no longer has a Hood in-game or in-fluff, but has his Runestaff instead.

I don't think they look all that bad, depending on how you paint them. Here is an example of one of my Long Fang Squad Leaders, who I think looks pretty decent with the tabard. I liked the look of some of those old 3e metal veteran models, and incorporated them into my Wolves many years ago:

Here is another old metal veteran model (just to the left of the Hunter with the Wolf Standard), who I think pulls off a tabard rather well.

EDIT: I see from the pic that I really need to go back and update some of the old bases to make them consistent...

I was just looking around at librarian models and notice that they all have the the horned skull thing as the badge of office while it is always absent on rune priests.

That's true, as the horned skull is a Codex Astartes symbol of the Librarius. Completely fitting that we'd ignore that...

What do we feel about using the Centurian models with some hefty conversion as TWC? I would love to convert 4 of those guys to represent teched out hard core cc brawlers and make one my Wolf Lord. Thoughts?

I think in part it will depend on the rules for the centurion and how closely the two compare. Obviously the Thunderwolves, as beasts, are likely to be faster so some conversion to add tracks or wheels or something tot he Centurions would help and reconfiguring the weapons setup might be tricky but ultimately I see no reason why not.

You know, there's so much hate for Centurions from the other chapters as to being the ugliest model, I have wondered how us Wolves view the new kit for our own conversion purposes.

I'm of the mentality that if you slap a wolf pelt and some of those tail talismans and fang necklace on it, anything looks good.

I actually like the Centurion armor, looks pretty cool (this coming from a guy that finds any opportunity to hate on GW). Super expensive though. Prolly gonna wait for a second hand one on ebay. Centurion with a space wolf bare-head would looks awesome, or the wolf tail Mk. 7 head.
