Help - Finding the right color for a UM Stormtalon cockpit

Hi lads,

I got some serious issues on how to paint the cockpit from my Ultramarines Stormatalon and I was hoping if you could support me with some ideas.

My first attempt was to paint the cockpit in Fortress grey with some parts in Codex grey and the seat black, but it looked way to bright. After that I googled some pics and found a thread here in B&C where a guy painted the cockpit black, but I for me that's too dark (black is the mother of dark ).

At the moment I’m thinking about a very dark grey (Vallejo Model Air 71.056 Black Grey) for the cockpit and dark brown for the seat, but I’m totally uncertain about it and any ideas are welcome.

Painted mine in just the same color as the outside. But if you want to get another color then a dark grey would probably be the way to go.

Actually I’m fan of painting the interior of my vehicles in the same colour as outside. But in the case of a “plane” I don’t feel it fits very well.

So I’m going to try the dark grey and see how it works and if I’m totally unsatisfied with the result I can always strip the paint off.

I've seen nice ones done with the interior painted light green highlighted to white, as if lit up by the cockpit display panels, with a bit of light green OSL on the techmarine too.

I though he did a great job on the cockpit. If your feeling ambitious you could put the led in it too!

You could base it black and then drybrush some Boltgun or Mithril/Chainmail on it.

I went with black heavily drybrushed with boltgun metal. edged it with mithril silver, then picked out the screens and buttons

Fighter cockpits tend to be pretty simple colours - mid/light grey like the Tornado or Eurofighter, mid grey like teh F-15 or Black like the F16

Although it’s been a while since I started this topic I like to thank you for your replies. It really took me a pretty long time from to build and paint the Stormtalon (I’ve finished it two weeks ago).

After all I’d went for a very dark grey (black grey from Vallejo model air) and I’m pretty satisfied with the result.
