Emperor's Children Log

I was just looking at some Geiger inspired bases - your's are much prettier/creepier!

Lovely addition with the Chosen model, really love it! Perhaps a dark charcoal over black recesses, would leave you able to build up to whiter highlights as well.

@KrautScientist, interesting work and I love the ogre pieces!

Im thinking of building a contemptor pattern centurion, probably with fleshy arms a la our obliterators. It would be more difficult then the Alpha legion weapons teams I was thinking of though.

So the consensus is a black toga? I'll see how I feel about that.

This thread is winning!! great work there dude, keep it up, what head do you use for those creepy human heads? thanks smile.png

If you mean the Noise Marines, then the Prometheus Brides heads by puppetswar.

If you mean the Terminators, GW Hellstriders.

I've been working on the hair, never painted blonde before. Interesting!

However, in contrast to the superb sculpting on the rest of the model, the hair is done very poorly. It reminds me of GW circa late '80s early 90's, when fur and hair was done by jabbing a cocktail stick into a lump of putty and swirling it about.

There's a suggestion of curls, but it's altogether pretty messy.

As a result, I've been having problems.

Does it look alright?

Any advice is appreciated.

The top image turned out pretty red for some reason. The lower one is how it looks like in reality.

I took about a dozen pics but my crappy old camera just didn't want to focus properly.

Now that I look at the skin up close too, it needs some more done to tone down the basecoat.... lower the saturation if I was using photoshop, lol. Perhaps a dark wash in the recesses.

The model itself is very nice, but that perm is abysmal! Anyways, I start blond with a desert yellow and work up from there. The rest of your stuff is ace.

I started with brown lightened with a mixture of yellow and white.

I've since done a light wash to try and bring the colous together a bit more but it still looks pretty rough.

The wings also need a lot of work to clear them up.

Also, I can't decide between a white toga or a black one. Here are 2 shopped pics showing the current state of the paintjob plus a white or black toga.

Vote!

I'm leaning towarss white, because I think it pops more. Black just leaves it looking more subdued and without detail.

I'm not 100% though and would be willing to here other opinions.

Of all the models, I have to say the one that really grabbed my attention was the terminator licking his lips.  You are really good at almost insignificant details that really make models just pop.

White does look better on the toga.

I was going to suggest painting the wings to look like those of a peacock (blue, teal, tourquoise, green color range) to provide good contrast with the skin.

I'm working on some more NM of my own and I think I'll be checking back here every so often to keep my conversions on track.
