Organizing Warhammer and workstation

I'm surprised i couldn't find a topic on this already.

I'm trying to appalling sort tout the appalling mess of warhammer in my apartment including finished models, works in progress and massive amounts of sprues.

does anyone have any good hints or tips for storage of this stuff on a budget

Don't keep whole sprues if they're mostly empty, or contain only small parts — cut the parts from them and put them into the little drawers, preferably sorted in some way (by faction, perhaps, or maybe all the weapons in one, all the arms in another, etc. — any way that makes sense to you is fine).

For 40K vehicle parts, I have the box from a Land Raider into which I chuck all the parts, plus whole sprues that are mostly full. If there are things I want to keep together (like all the parts for a Land Raider sponson, for example), I either trim down the sprue so all I have left is the area with those parts, or I cut the parts from the sprue and put them in a ziplock bag, then put that in the box.

To be fair I've got a plastic mess too, but I've nominally organized things to a degree, I use an organizer with a bunch of small drawers for bits, a company called Akro-mills makes a number of various products. I'll store everything from loose bits and bases to mostly complete squads that need finishing touches. Also great if you're working on a kitbash and you wanna keep all the bits together for a single model in one drawer.

For things like tac marine sprues at first I used bead trays to hold all the separate pieces which made it really easy to always find the backpacks I wanted. To be fair I did clip almost 5 squads worth of tac bits into this single tray to make it useful, now it just holds a few odds and ends that ahven't gotten used or transferred over to the drawers.

For large sprues I also elected to use a land raider box to hold my empties, because you never know when you need to make sprue bits, or sprue rubble. if you have a DV or a mega force box those work even better thanks to their larger size.

For paints I hit up Walmart and bought a kitchen drawer organizer (you know, for forks, spoons...ect.) and that has held the majority of my paints and let's me go work in the other room when I want to.

To store completed models I've taken to building either small pieces of area terrain or cardboard building ruins to hold squads, then I stick em up on a shelf out of the way. Nice to look at time to time, but not all over my work area to be knocked over or spattered upon by other paints.

I'm living in a apartment too and I know how space is the biggest issue.

I went to kmart(same as Walmart I believe) and bought myself 3 storage boxes each with 8 deep compartments. They were only around $10 each If I remember correctly and it was money well spent. In one I have all my paints, glue, pigment powders, magnets, basing materials and even sand because the compartments are about 4" deep so ther is plenty of space. In the second I've all my WIP models that are awaiting paint and in the third I've all my bits and models awaiting assembly.

Now you said you have a massive amount of sprues which obviously take up alot of space so as soon as I get a box of minis I clip everything of the sprue and fire the frame in the bin.

Thankfully my girlfriend is very accommodating with regards to my hobby so she doesn't mind the fact that the coffe table becomes my hobby table on a daily basis but when I'm done everything gets put into the boxes and slides neatly under the coffe table.
