Brother Heinrich
Hey Guys, Quick question regarding the warcry, "Count the Seven!" used in Flight of the Eisenstein. Is it only used by the 7th Company or do all the Death Guard grand companies use it? I ask because the 40wiki says it was primarily used by the 7th Company. It seems a little strange to me that only the 7th would use it considering there's only 7 companies and the cry seems to be usable by any one of them. Any clarification by veteran Death Guard enthusiast would be much appreciated, trying to get my facts straight for a future project... No Foes Remain
Well the Death Guard had seven Grand Companies so it would make sense that it would be used for the Legion as a whole but I have never seen nor read that it was for the 7th Grand Company alone. Also I wouldn't trust 40kwikia as quite a fair bit of their stuff is fan made. Lucien Eilam
It was introduced as specific to the company: Decius’s voice cut across the channel, brimming with zeal. ‘Count the Seven!’ he cried, yelling out the company’s call to rally. ‘Count the Seven!’ Their Index Astartes article said the Legion has no battlecry, but it's not clear if that was also the case before they became Plague Marines. Brother Heinrich
Ah boo, that's such an awesome Warcry. Very legion unique. It reminds me of "Lupercal!" for the Sons of Horus. The regular "For the Emperor and my Dad!" warcries bore me. Conn Eremon
Well, the fact that the Seventh, one of the big three, had such a warcry, I am sure the First and Second had something equally epic. Not sure of the slightly lesser four. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279567-death-guard-warcry-question/#findComment-3450017 Share on other sites
Brother Heinrich
Most of the 7th went traitor though right? It's been forever since I read flight of the Eisenstein so I don't remember much of the DG fluff. DuskRaider
Most of the LEGION went traitor. Only about 30% of the Legion stayed loyal at Isstvan III. Honestly, I think you could make any battle cry you want. I'm sure individual Companies had their own rallying calls based on heritage of both their culture and that of the Company itself. Brother Heinrich
True, time to start doing my research... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279567-death-guard-warcry-question/#findComment-3450841 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
Exactly. Use some of the fluff from Barbarus or the old Dusk Raiders to come up with something you like. For instance, my Death Guard are 3rd Company. Their battle cry is "Iron Bound", an old rallying call from the Albian Ironsides that followed into the Legion. The origins are probably lost to the Traitors now, but it's a tradition they follow. Brother Heinrich
Nice I like it. Also since we're on the topic and I'm not sure the question really belongs in the army list section, what is a good way to run foot-slogging Death Guard in 30k? Never played it but I'm looking to start in the months ahead. Just don't want to waste money on units that won't do anything. DuskRaider
You would probably just want to take maxed squads of Tactical Marines... I'd say 3 squads of 20, backed by 3 Support Squads and then throw in Terminators and Dreadnoughts. Honestly, I've never even considered it, I'm running a Pride of the Legion force with (at this time) 3 full squads of Cataphractii, two full squads of Tactical Marines, and a Support Squad carrying Meltas. FunkyMonkey
Most of the 7th went traitor though right? It's been forever since I read flight of the Eisenstein so I don't remember much of the DG fluff. I thought most of the Seventh (which is under the command of Garro, right?) was sent off by Typhon and Grulgor in the opening phases of Istvaan III. I would think this indicates that many of them were loyal. Makes sense considering Garro was their commander and he highly disproved of the warrior lodge thing. DuskRaider
There were large elements of (from what I remember, book not on hand), 2nd, 7th, and I think 5th? On Isstvan III. So it seems as though even Grulgor had a large amount of Loyalists in his Company.
