New SM allies

Can you still take a Master of the Forge on a bike with a Conversion Beamer and is the Thunderfire Cannon different? Those two units are what I liked taking from old Codex Space Marines as allies.

Yes to the first.

To the second; it has Barrage now. Some people love this, some people don't.

Tigerius is great, but forces you to play UM tactics.  His reroll only works for them.  So, if you're happy with UM tactics, cool. If not, and you want to ally, only the ally stuff gets the reroll.

I think you are wrong there,  if you read the codex it states that if tigerius is in your force you can reroll "all" reserve rolls.   Normally if it is just a rule for your detachment it specifically states this.

Some of you need to re-read this thread msn-wink.gif

Also:

The Blood Angels have, without a doubt, the very best Chapter fluff in the Imperium. We aren't all lame and disgusted with our bodies to the point of hacking bits off to be replaced by cybernetics, nor are we all goody-goody blue funboys with no real fluff short of, "Uhhhh... we got our asses handed to us by the 'nids." We aren't scouring the galaxy, searching for our brothers who turned to the dark side and might out us while living in a floating rock because we blew our own homeworld up. We aren't self flagellators in yellow armor, we aren't all albino with schtoopid mutant weirdos, we don't have lame claws growing out of our forearms, and we do not enjoy chowing down on a steaming bowl of dog food and rolling over for a nap.

We are among the oldest lived space marines. We are possibly the only ones who appreciate, and create art. We have a true hero Primarch that died in the service of the Emperor. Our Primarch didn't have canines, he didn't have pallid skin, or one freaky eye; he had wings! He had precognition without dabbling in the chaos arts. The Blood Angels are proud, yet not self-important. They fight as well as any marine, yet at the same time hold themselves back to keep from falling into the abyss of the Rage. I could go on, but I'd be speaking to the converted...

The popularity of marine armies waxes and wanes as GW focuses their baleful eye on each one. While our rules may suffer in light of the current armies, there will always be a core cadre of players who play them because they are just so dang bitchen' regardless of the rules.

Oh, I almost forgot... the Blood Angels are red. Not some fairy lame color like blue or yellow. Not presumptuous goth black, or goth-lite gray. Not green (I mean, green?) or white (coming up with a primary color was too difficult for them). They are red; the color of blood and violence. In other words, the color of why it's good to be a marine!

I'm playing around with the idea of an allied Captain with Jump pack, artificer armor, and relic blade (or maybe burning blade for I5 Ap2 goodness), along with a tactical squad and maybe a thunderfire.

Gives a nasty melee character with a 2+ save that can tank fire for an assault squad, as well as a good backfield objective holder and some great long-range firepower. I've been bringing a backfield libby, so I've got divination to get rerolls for the thunderfire, to ensure that first scatter hits it's mark.

In the digital codex, Tig is said to reroll all reserves from the same detachment....I missed it at first.

Did LoD always have the 3+/3++? The old codex says "their saving throw is invulnerable" while the new one states "LoD have a 3+ invulnerable." Never played them before so I'm unsure of how they were treated. Did it used to be a 3+/3++ or were the armor throws just taken as invulnerable?

...and yes, I do remember why I play Blood Angels. It's been 14 years now (with a hiatus in between) since I picked them boys in red and when I came back, I could've started from scratch with ANY other army and decided to stick with the sentimental attachment I have for all those great games played as a kid. Doesn't mean I don't get to try new toys in preparation for when we get our update. The way things seem to be going though, I have no clue how we're going to function when we have to choose from the book psychic powers instead of our own. The SM dex kind of confirmed this for me but I guess we still have SW to see if we get to keep our flying Meph and Libby dreads...

I tried out a game yesterday. All drop pods 2 plain stern and 4 tacs with 3 Dev squads at 2k. I also used the imperial fist doctrine. Let me tell you....the tank hunter ability on the devs was invaluable. 3 dead tanks in first turn and a buttload of dead infantry. I don't know...but the score was 9 VP to nothing by turn 3 and the opponent folded...I played vs chaos with 2 princes and a heldrake

Any BA allies?

No no. This was just a test game to get a feel for the codex. Gotta try it once right ;)

But in so saying, I believe that allying may not be a bad idea with this codex. 4 ravens 3 Baal's with assault cannons and as many tactical squads that can fit it will make a dirty army. Tigurius is great by the looks of it, too bad he doesn't affect our reserves. But if were to make a pod list then marine allies would be a great addition simply for the point reduction that we need

Couple of questions.

If you have an allied detachment and main detachment witha  pod each,  do they both come down turn 1?

Second is Tigerius,  in the printed codex it says nothing about only effecting his detachment.  So I guess it is down to an FAQ
