Death Guard unit advice

Hey gents,

So I've been steadily building up motivation to go 30k (aided greatly by GW and it's fluff creators) and I'm about 90% sold on building up a small XIV Legion force. The aim I'm going for is a specialist formation under 3rd company that is primarily used for final sanction actions. Basically they're used to deal with really tough xenos breeds (such as Murder), or human societies using proscribed dark age tech (i.e. sentient machines or really powerful arms and armor) that prevents traditional legion tactics from succeeding. I also wanted to make them primarily footslogging so as to make sure they can properly root out all resistance and ensure positive confirmation of a successful purge action.

So my question to you guys who are more experienced in 30k and the game mechanics is this. Which units should I take to make this vision happen, while still maintaining a modicum of success against other Marine armies in the Horus Heresy. Here are the units I've identified so far that I'd like to include, but aren't necessary if you guys have better advice:

- Forge Lord Centurion armed with a power maul and rad grenades so he insta-kills Astartes.

- Terminators with volkite weapons

- Destroyers (Obviously) though I don't know if jet packs or foot sloggers are better

- Moritat (For fluffiness, not sure of actual combat effectiveness)

- 20 Man squads with Apothecary support (radiation be some nasty stuff)

- Contemptors (I like the look of AC and PF, but I'm open to advice on kit)

- Support Squads with Flamers or Volkite weapons

- Heavy Support with Volkite weapons or Lascannons (open to advice)

- Anything else lets me use phosphex or rad weapons

Additionally I plan on swapping out all flamers with chem-munitions so as to keep the theme of pure nasty warfare going.

Any advice from veteran Legionnaires would be greatly appreciated!

The Siege Breaker centurion will allow you to change the normal shells in all the Medusa Siege Tanks you use for phosphex shells for free. Besides he could carry some phosphex bombs too. If you want chem warfare is your guy, put him in a heavy support squad and will improve the unit heavy weapons.

I think the rest is pretty much ok, put the Moritat in the Destroyer Squad, I heard it could cause a lot of pain.

Honestly, I would go a couple ways. You could go with heavy infantry ala Terminators using the Pride of the Legion Rite of War, throw some Contemptors in, and support them with Tactical Squads to make up for lack of numbers. Another way you could go about it is straight up maxed out Tactical Squads, full Support Squads, Jump Pack equipped Destroyers, and perhaps a Seeker Squad to cut off the head, so to speak. Both should be supported by Tanks of some sort... Vindicators, Land Raiders... If you go Terminators, I would suggest looking into the Primus Medicae for your other HQ slots besides the Praetor... Throw then in Terminator Armor and let them march along with your Cataphract Terminators to make them nigh unstoppable.

And BTW, the Moritat is NASTY. Put him in Artificer Armor, give him a Jump Pack, two Plasma Pistols, and a Charnable Sabre and watch him own face.

Edit: I would recommend Flame weapons as well, we get a nice Special Rule for them.

Alright, so taking some of your guys' advice, here's a tentative 2,000 point list, let me know your thoughts:

HQ:

Siege Breaker Consul - Volkite Charger, TDA, Thunder Hammer, 3x Phosphex Bombs - 177pts

Moritat Consul - Artificer Armor, 2x Plasma Pistols, Jump Pack, Power Maul, Melta Bombs - 165pts

Elites:

Legion Terminator Squad (5) - 5x Power Fists, 4x Volkite Chargers, 1x Heavy Flamer - 238pts

Legion Destroyer Squad (10) - Melta Bombs, 2x Rad Missile Launcher, Jumpacks, 3x Phosphex Bombs - 430pts

Contemptor Dreadnought Talon (2) - 2x Kheres Pattern AC, 2x Dreadnought CCW, 2x Heavy Flamers - 400pts

Troops:

Legion Tactical Squad (20) - Powerfist, Artificer Armor, Vexilla, Nuncio Vox - 295pts

Legion Tactical Squad (20) - Powerfist, Artificer Armor, Vexilla, Nuncio Vox - 295pts

Total: 2000pts

Deathshroud are pretty nasty, IMO. They're not necessarily going to rip a tank to shreds with their Scythes, but they will love wading knee deep into enemy troops and just swinging them around. They have awesome staying power with their extra wound, they have Chem Flamers, they have Melta Bombs... they're pretty nice. I do agree though, I don't like the fact that they're in Tartaros, but it is what it is. I would highly recommend a Praetor as well. The stats are much better than a Centurion, they have access to more equipment, and they unlock the nifty Rites of War that allow you to mess with the FOC

I would only really take a Siege Breaker if I were using Medusa Tanks and / or Heavy Support squads too.
