Homebrew Sucessor Chapter : Crimson Born

Memento Of Prospero

Recommended Posts

I've been doing a bit of thinking about giving my sucessors more depth other than the colour scheme. I've come up with some ideas and would like some feedback from you fine gentlemen.

Chapter name : Crimson Born

Home Planet : Aegis Prime- Destroyed. The Chapter is spacebound, as their chapter fortress fell to tyranid hivefleet Behemoth.

Chapter Master : Fabio, the Beautiful

Chapter strength: 6 companies

Battle Barges : The Bloody Spear, The Shield of Sanguinius, The Butcher

Chapter heraldry: half white, half red. Death companies and tactical dreadnought armour are half white, half black. Veterans were brass helmets to mark rank.

Can't get the other half of the belt painted for some reason!

Chapter background

The Crimson Born originate from Aegis Prime, a lush and verdant deathworld. The chapter fortress, the Ego's shadow, was their gem and pride. Benefiting from the planets nearly endless supply of rare minerals, the Crimson Born spent without end to acquire ancient artefacts and works of art to decorate it's hall and majestic garden. Their pride was such that when news worlds were found lifeless in the sector, the chapter did not bother investigating or consolidate it's defenses. As pride is the first sign of the fall, the planet suffered the onslaught of hive fleet Behemoth. The deadly clash lasted 3 weeks and all but decimated the Chapter. Broken and on the brink of instinction, the chapter was forced to abandon Aegis Prime and fled to space with their pride forever shattered.

Chapter traditions and practices

Since the fall of Aegis Prime, the chapter is still recovering from it's devastating losses at the claws of the tyranids. They struggle to recruit new blood and have gone to highly controversial methods to sustain their numbers. To extend the already incredible lifespan of the sons of Sanguinius, the Crimson Born make extensive use of dreadnoughts and have adapted the technology to fit tactical dreadnought armour. Thus even at the brink of death, the Crimson born can still serve the chapter for several hundred years. Either in near death or fallen to the black rage, both the terminator veterans and death company wear the black.

This is a highly disputed method - The Mechanicus and Inquisition alike seeks to investigate these unsanctioned rituals, but are rebuffed at every attempt. The chapter's good standing with the Blood Angels, who themsleves know too well that the prying eyes of the Inquistion need to be shunt, have prevented the Crimson Born from purge on many occastions. They do not forget such thrust, and have always heeded the Call of the 9th Legio wherever, whenever it is required of them.

The Crimson Born favour exotic, non-codex weapons, such as spears and halberds.

Chapter Tactics

Due to the combined factors of their limited recruitment, bountiful wealth and life extending rites, the chapter only sustains 6 companies, 3 of which are veteran companies. This is an unusually high number for any chapter. They focus on precision strikes, aiming crippling the enemy command structure to better divide and conquer. Tactical Dreadnought armour and sternguard veterans are prime candidates for these assignments.

Fabio, who's legendary silky smooth skin makes the whole slaaneshii cults revolt in jealousy.

And who's luscious locks of chocolate brown hair, said to be washed with the tears of virgins, drives even the most enchanting eldar maidens so green with envy as to be mistaken as Orks. :D

What exactly makes their world a deathworld? It doesn't seem too bad to me. Also, [PERSONAL OPINION INCOMING] I think that Tyranids are a bad choice if you want something to damage the chapter enough for them to completely change their doctrines. Behemoth was stopped about 250 years ago, and Leviathan and Kraken are really recent. It's up to you, but it doesn't seem like enough time for a Chapter to develop and implement new technology to keep their vets alive, not to mention the changes in their organization.

All in all, I like the idea, these are just a few little things you might need to address later. Keep working on it.

Mmm, food for thought. Good poitnt - I will elaborate on the deathworld aspect.

Is 250 years enough? I think so, but I am no expert on imperium technology development. Dramatic events call for dramatic action. I could always push it back, perhaps the passing of a Necron World Engine? A devasting purge my an eldar craftworld (being established on one of their "sacred planets" causes this) perhaps?
