Any future for Sist's ?

Hi,

I am collecting way to many armies at the moment ( I wonder if  ever find time to paint them.. :D ) but since I have layed (?) my hands on original SoB codex, I am sold, so to say. So now, I have few models for SoB army (my wife is saying that more than necesseary or something) and I do not know, if there is any  reason to commit to painting them (if I ever paint them, I mean to play some games)? So, to cut the cr*p- are SoB's having any GW future or will they be sent to wash Squat's socks forever?

The long answer:

No, Sisters are to be super-squatted - the all new and improved version of squatting. GW's legions of brown shirt ninja lawyers will descend upon the World mind scrubbing anyone who knows even a passing thing about SoB, collecting all SoB models for returning to the forge foundries of Nottingham, and probably all female miniatures just to be on the safe side. Untold thousands of thrall servitors will purge the internet, removing even a passing reference to females in 40k. All of this will be done in the blink of an eye thanks to the Battle Brothers alliance status of GW and Satan Claws Inc and their time warping technology.

The short answer:

No, Sisters are not being squatted. GW have made no utterance of this happening or even being planned. You may as well ask if the entire 40k range is being squatted, because GW haven't mentioned anything about that happening either so there's as much evidence for it.

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ!

The main problem at the moment is the difficulty of getting the codex legally. Latest rumour has GW working on a digital version though which will help alleviate this if true. Once you've got yourself a shiny battery powered book then you can get the models which is the next issue. Metal isn't cheap, and GW are actively winding down metals to replace with Finecast so they start to become even scarcer - much to the delight of the greedy eBayers I'm sure.

For anyone looking to start up Sisters unless you're very patient (or fabulously rich?) I'd recommend a bit of proxying to test the codex out and waiting until the new release with plastics. That's a pretty big request though considering we don't know when we're getting the update, so maybe easy for me to say with all the Sisters I have in my house. So perhaps the more practical answer is to get some models when you can and start working on your force slow-and-purposeful style.

At least then you'll gradually build an army to play with and be more prepared for the new models when they come. Plus you'll be able to tell people you collected SoB before they were the latest trend and show off your metal(s) tongue.png

There's always the option of jabbering away on the B&C while you're waiting/building up your army. We're nothing if not good at that! We'd certainly like to watch your new army take form smile.png

Sisters won't be a squats 2.

The biggest issue with the squats was, in the words of Jervis, that the design team had no idea what to actually do with them since their current (well, 1993) iteration (biker dwarfs with leather jackets?) was too wonky to really be worked into the 40k they were working to.

So they kept pressing the codex back, and back... and back. And before you knew it we had reached the 3rd edition where they decided to not make a quick army list like they did with every other codex, wrote a short story in a white dwarf about how they all got eaten by tyranids, and they were done with that problem.

Now lets look at the current sisters; do they have any such problems?

Not really, no. I think they fit fine in the current 40k.

Now lets look at the current sisters; do they have any such problems?

Yes. They're unmanufacturable with the company's current methods. Well, this is mostly true. They could go all failcast, there's even precedent for failcast upgrade kits to plastic models so they can still mint exorcists. Mr. Goodwin's sculpts have too many deep recesses and undercuts to lend themselves to plastics and flowing robes have issues when it comes to multi-part figure design. We have seen some progress on these recently with the current range of DAngel kits, but they don't have sleeves and bobs.

Which isn't a problem in the fluff or æsthetics which was a problem in case of the squats.

Manufacturing problems can be solved. It might take a bit longer, but they can be solved.

Besides, it wouldn´t be the first time an army could wait... eh... what was it again?

Oh right, a decade or more for a new codex (Dark Eldar anyone?).

I'd be patient and focus on painting and playing with one of your other forces for a while first.  Chances are, Sisters will eventually be released with a nice strong 6e codex and a whole new plastic model line, just like every other army is getting these days.  It just make take a few more years for that to come to fruition, but I am confident that it eventually will.  They just need to solve the casting challenges, which can be done (after all, the beautiful all-metal Grey Knights model line was successfully transitioned).  Unlike the Squats, our Sisters of Battle have a good theme, fit well into the Universe framework, have solid fluff/background material, and a decent loyal following in the player base.  Providing terrific and interesting units, rules, and models will only bring in more, as there are many others, like you, who'd like to explore the Sisters as a primary or secondary army, but are put off by scarcity of rules and expense of metal models with little variety.

Luckily for now, in 6e, once you do get your hands on the rules (via digital release that is hopefully coming), you can ally in a small contingent of Sisters into your other primary force to get a small taste for what they offer.

Don't get me wrong, I want Sisters updated and wonderful plastics as soon as possible but on the other hand I've a lot of models for me DE, Guard and the new Marine models to work on so my poor work desk is already crumbling under the metaphorical weight of models :P I'm trying to imagine it as my win/win scenario...

Sisters make great allies for Marines and Guard because they offer a lot, so it's a great way to get some use out of your slowly growing army and a taster of things to come :)

Actually if you are a truly devoted Sisters of Battle player, or aspiring to be one, you will go out of your way and pay too much for the oop White Dwarf issues, shell out silly amounts of money for your mainly metal army, and praise GW at each mention of your army even if they become fashionable helmet adornments for power armored Mary Sues, and fanatically defend your "new and improved" army list even as you lose units and take horrendous nerfs for no reason.
